Has it got hdmi 2.0? If not I'd wait.

4x HDMI 2.0 according to spec

Not much point getting a 40" 4K in my opinion. I will wait until some of the larger sizes come down in price

Reviews aren't particularly positive. Resolution drops noticeably when viewing anything other than a still image.

I assume you're talking about motion resolution, if so I think you and/or the reviewer has misunderstood what that measure actually means. The set will always be able to refresh every pixel for every frame, motion resolution measures how the effects of how the set presents each frame (scan&hold versus pulse) combine with a trait of our eyes called retina retention (which varies from person to person). People (even reviewers unfortunately) confuse it for meaning the panel itself can't update ever pixel for every frame

Why would john Lewis price match a random website? Thought they had to have a local high street presence?

Lcd tv's will always have less motion resolution compared to plasma and oled. When old 50hz lcd tvs was about, they had better motion on broadcast. You are welcome to correct my comments.

My mistake. One store in St Albans but there are 2 JL stores in range.

Cold. LCD.

200hz on a 4k TV is like having a 50hz HD TV. no good for anything fast moving unless you like motion blur

Plasma perhaps, since the technology inherently has to use pulse rather then scan and hold. Therefore while motion resolution may be better then a set employing scan and hold (all else being equal), other issues come into play (flicker & brightness for example).

LCD and OLED can employ either method of displaying each frame, therefore its inaccurate to state LCD will always have less motion resolution then OLED. In fact if you check the AVForums review of the 55" LG OLED (may have been the Samsung, can't remember for sure) set, they measured lower motion resolution then many modern LCD's. Thats because that set employs scan and hold in the mode the reviewer tested motion resolution.

Frame interpolation, backlight strobing, etc .... have been employed to mitigate motion resolution issues and can eliminate it as an issue largely. But then other issues are introduced, strobing brings the flicker/brightness issues of Plasmas (although LCD/OLED can be brighter to begin with), frame interpolation creates artefacts and the soap opera effect.

Ultimately the issue lies with the slow frame rates employed in motion pictures and TV. Once thats addressed, this issue will largely go away. Until then we suffer with retina retention or the consequences of workarounds to avoid it.
