Been after a TV for a while and came across this Samsung yesterday. Hopefully get some advice on whether this TV is worth buying at this price, especially with the free 5 year guarantee. I'll mainly be using it for gaming, movies and freeview SD.

Seems a decent option for anyone wanting a TV with no smart or 3D function.

This TV is Highly Recommended by HDTVtest.
They say it's actually got a better screen than the F5500 as this one is direct-lit and the F5500 is edge-lit. This gives the F5000 better saturated colours, wider viewing angles and slightly darker blacks. Very well reviewed on Amazon also.

Currently
£379.98 at Amazon
£399 at Currys
£419 at Tesco
£419.99 at Argos
All without a 5 year guarantee

Full HD 42 inch TV
Freeview HD
2xHDMI and 1xUSB
100Hz CMR

My other options:
Panasonic TXL50B6B - 50inch Panasonic for £469.99
Sony KDL42W654 - 42inch Sony for £529

Currently considering this TV, or the Panasonic TXL50B6B for £469.99 or the Sony KDL42W654 for £529. Hope to get some advice Thanks.

Only 2 hdmi ports, why do some tvs have so little?

I called up RS earlier in the week to order this tv but the guy put right off it, said it was only really 50hz and no good for sports etc wanted me to buy the LG 575 instead. I read reviews for this and thought it was ok....I ended up buying the 40" Sony R47 instead.

I would expect the Sony you are looking at would be the best of the three, but alas the most expensive.

I had the same experience from RS last year when I went in to try and buy the UE40EH5000. They said the same exact thing. Fine for normal viewing, terrible for gaming and sports and pushed me to go for the LG next to it. Not sure why they don't favour Samsung as much whereas JL usually back Samsung over LG.

May be they get more sales commission from LG to Samsung...

sony - best picture quality, worst codec support ever, expencive.
Samsung - ok picture quailty, best codec support, cheap.
LG - who buys lg?

Only in-store (_;)

Just bought a Panasonic TX-L42E6B 42 Inch Full HD Freeview HD Smart LED TV £529 @ Argos. Superb TV but would recommend sound bar (Richer Sounds doing a good LG one for £113 (I think) as sound a bit weak. Superb picture and 3 x HDMI inc ARC. Hope that's helpful.

What's wrong with LG, they have always seemed to be good sets when I've looked at them. Don't have one though as brother gave me his Panasonic when he went abroad.

Was initially tempted by the TV you bought but now am probably going to get the Panasonic TX-L42ET60B from Richer Sounds at £549.99 (inc 5 year guarantee), For the extra £20, it seems worth it.

Thanks. Yeah I did see the TV you bought in shops too. But I was always leaning towards the Sony. Do you use it for gaming? Any major blur or lag?

Did see that too. But no 5 year guarantee and it's edge-lit whereas this one is direct-lit. So many options to choose from :\

I purchased the KDL-42W654 for £529 from John Lewis with the 5 year warranty, it was delivered a couple of days ago. I specifically got it for the low input lag (as I game quite a lot) and I'm very happy with my purchase. I could have gone for a bigger TV for alot less money, I'm really glad that I didn't

I've been so tempted by that TV for a while now. It really does seem like an awesome TV. How is it with SD content?
I was really hoping to find a TV under £500. And for that price I was thinking I might as well go for the 50inch Panasonic. All these TVs keep messing with my head! Haha

We upgraded to Sky+HD at the same time so the majority of my viewing is HD. It doesn't have as much SD content enhancing goodies as the W8 and W9 series but the prices of those are way too high for me personally. You're in the same boat that I was, 42" is actually alot smaller than what I wanted but I wanted to future-proof for gaming and went with this. £529 is pretty expensive when you look at it, this TV has hardly dropped in price at all, and from the looks of it I don't think it will; it's being touted as THE best TV for the next generation of consoles (PS4 and Xboxone) because of it's industry leading input lag times. These are selling really well so there is no need for them to sell it cheaper I would go with the 50" Panasonic if I wasn't a big gamer. If you still can't decide just nip into a Currys/PcWorld and have a look at the size difference yourself. Hope this helps mate

Nearly perfect - only thing missing is the VGA port... just incase you need to plug in a laptop.

Got the 22 inch version of this recently, so impressed, really smooth.

Its been this price for awhile now and posted lots of times.
These TV's are plagued by the panel lottery, you have a 3/4 chance of getting a totally unsuitable TV with poor black levels, blurring and ghosting.
Ask if you can open the box and check the service menu first before you buy these, as unless you get the good panel, totally not worth the money.

You're kidding right?

Totally depends on the size of your room.
42 inch is too small for my bedroom, let alone the living room.

Too small if you intend to sleep on it.
