Does anyone know if these are VA or IPS panels? Samsung are notorious for offering both panels for the same model. The NU4700 came with either panel, but you didn't know until you bought it. If it's a VA panel then great deal.

And if it's an IPS everyone in the room will be able to see it properly. Depends on your setup i guess. I have a VA Hisense. Fine head on but off centre slightly, colours all look washed out

True. If you need to cover wide viewing angles then IPS is the preferred panel. I just read a lot of people complaining about IPS panels in terms of quality, but as you say, it depends on your setup.

It is frustrating because i know that VA panels have better black uniformity and if you watch a lot of dark content it looks better but if you need great blacks and good angles then it's OLED territory and much more expensive. It's time for OLEDs to come down in price i think. They've been out a few years now so i don't see why they don't. Rant over lol

Yeah, I wish they'd come down in price too. I guess while they still have large numbers of people jumping onto the OLED ship, they'll maintain the current pricing. We just need people to stop buying them. I'm waiting for a good deal on the Panasonic 40" GX800, as my girlfriend doesn't want a mammoth TV in the living room (grrr). It's supposed to be one of the best specs for smaller TVs, and provides some really nice blacks. I refuse to pay £600 for a "small" TV though.

The early adopters are the only reason they would come down in price, which they actually have drastically, despite your claim to the contary.

Ah, OK. What do mean by "which they actually drastically"? Are you saying that now the early adoption phase is over, then the prices came down drastically, and that we can't expect another big price drop on OLED TVs?

I meant "which they actually have drastically". Cant find uk pricing but in 2012 the 55EM9600 was $8000, a fair drop no?. Not sure why you would expect a big drop, there is competition in the market for oleds now so yes they will continue to creep down. But how much is a decent 55" led tv? they seem to be anywhere from £600 to £1500 , didnt realise any led sets where that much anymore.

Thanks for the clarification, and you make a valid point. I'm not really expecting a big drop, more like a 20% drop. So the LG 55" OLED RRP to be around £9-950, rather than a £1200, for example. I'm happy to wait for prices to creep down though, and then jump on a deal.

Don't be tempting me like that! Thanks for the link. I'm keeping my ear to the ground on the LG OLED 55 inchers and hoping for a deal closer to the 8-850 mark. It may be a long way off, or around the corner, but I'll hold out as long as I can. I appreciate that I could be waiting for a long time but that's my current biting point. In the meantime, I'm still enjoying staring at a blank wall in my new man cave, fantasising about a nice 55 inch OLED on it.

Seems like when they hit £800-£850 you'll be waiting till they drop too £700-£750, you already moved the goal post while talking to me , good luck.

Ah no, I think you misunderstood. I'm hoping the RRP comes down to around the £1000 mark, and then I jump on a deal around the £8-850 mark. Hopefully that makes sense now.
Just ordered one for the parents. good find. JLewis & RSounds would match any prices on it because of the warranty. This will make it my 7th Samsung TV since 2003, all still going strong so probably worth the risk without the 5 years.

**UPDATE** orderd yesterday PM, delivered 0830 this morning with normal delivery. Great service. Don't bother paying for next-day delivery, you get it for free anyway.

The UE43RU7400 are all VA panels.

Great. Thanks for confirming that.

I'm having a right dilemma at the moment. This RU7400, the Samsung Q60R, the Panasonic 40GX800, or the cheaper Hisense 7500. I hate buying TVs. Anyway, I'm sure you're not interested

What are the price differences between them?

I have this TV and paid £400 the first week it launched - it's excellent for the money and I would highly recommend it for this price bracket. Mainly used as a 4k Blu ray TV and 3rd PC monitor.

Panasonic GX800 - 540
Hisense B7500 - 280
Samsung RU7400 - 340
Samsung Q60R - 530

Reviews for Hisense are scarce, so I'm apprehensive about taking the risk, despite it having Dolby Vision and being the cheaper option. I think this TV represents the best value, and good to hear that you rate it. I don't think spending another 200 on the Q60R or GX800 will provide a huge jump in quality at this size. I may well just pull the trigger on this one and be happy with it.

Thanks for your feedback btw.
