Sweet

Thanks just popping out to pick one up.

Cheers OP, just what I was looking for to use with a combination of tablet, chromebook and phone to watch dvd's and have more than one using when on holidays.

Thanks OP I ALMOST paid £29.99 for it in Maplins the other day (reduced from £79.99!!). But i resisted, and came home to check it out on the PC. Dabs were doing it for £19.99 I saw ! Then I read reviews and thought maybe not...though it is a good price for just a stand-alone DVD writer. The reviews have said how difficult it can be to set it up for the other features. BUT now, seeing your post, I am tempted again

I have absolutely no need for one of these and did not know that they even existed.

Ordered one for collection - thank you and damn you in equal measures OP

Not to dampen anyone's spirits but I actually bought this products about 6 months ago while it was on offer dead excited about all the promised to do. I'm not one to give up easily when setting up gadgets, but after 6 hours wasted trying to configure it, I took it back to the store. If anyone can successfully configure the streaming features, my deepest respect to them. Technical support is non-existent, manual useless and Maplin are simply trying to get rid of this product IMHO. Works well as a standalone external DVD, for streaming useless. I eventually got a product that actually streams at vidon.me, cost a bit more but actually does what it says it can do.

As Bkurtz, had mine in the box for ages, thought I'd give it a go a swapping stuff round, wifi was hit and miss, spent hours on it, defeated!... come with cable to make it usb powered dvdrom for laptop, that said these can be bought cheaper.... almost chucked it in the bin like the loops nas box that was on here the other week (apart from keeping the HDD and PSU )

People don't understand what this device actually does.

It's not meant to connect to your network to act as a media server, it's meant to be used stand-alone wireless media hub. You connect to it wirelessly and stream from it. The wired Ethernet port just gives it an internet connection which in-turn enables it to act as a wireless router.

If you use AllShare on your Samsung phone or tablet you should be able to easily use this wirelessly straight out of the box.

This works awesome. Just for don't expect it to do stuff that is not mentioned in the specs!

I bought this a few years ago and reviewed it on youtube for regular app wifi operation. The usb port supports suitable flash drives and hard drives. The drives and dvd can be accessed wirelessly via the app or any samba app although haven't bothered to try the other options as the app quirked great for what it was meant to do.

I have given links my YouTube video to the support website with ALL THE FAQS.

To set it up you need to connect to the wifi signal of the dvd player and not your own wifi. Works with multiple devices. Works fine in hotels to hook up to ethernet pry in your room and generate your own free wifi connection. I bought it mainly to use in car and in hotels as a portable dvd drive and router for my portable wireless NAS in my car or hotel room. I don't think you can connect it to your home network and via this explore all devices on your home network. The ethernet port doesn't allow network option add far as I am aware. It is a router in its own and does what samsung claims. Don't expect it to do something else.

I only use it for traveling or sometimes in my car. You will need a adapter for covering cigarette lighter port into regular wall adapter type 3 pin port which I have shown my set up in car on another one of my older videos think may be a year or year and a half ago. Click my username on hukd and see my profile where I have put the link to my YouTube profile. And if interested you can find the relavant video in my uploads or on my android car mods play list.

Using an USB OTG cable you can use this via usb OTG via your phone or tablet microusb port if your device supports USB OTG and access dvd or hard drive contents without wifi app too. But depending on your phone or might work worth stock file app or you might need other free or paid apps to explore goes on the dvd or hard drive.

I wanted to buy a similar system with bluray but got a response that Sony doesn't allow competitors like Samsung to do such stuff as sony wants to much money or other restrictions. So unfortunately samsung isn't going to bring out a bluray version of this that works in av mode. To work via usb OTG you need to flip this into av mode as shown in my video demo in another latest video using usb OTG cable on my nexus 7 2012.

That's awesome info bubbles. Thanks

I have picked mine up and can confirm that is great.

My android phone and tablet connected to it first time (out of the box SSID and password are on the bottom) and within a few minutes I was able to stream a DVD to my phone while streaming another MKV video file from a USB stick to my android tablet.

Worth mentioning that three of my friends running apple devices with IOS7 installed could not make it work - not sure if there is a fix, but all my android and PC stuff works extremely well with this.

Works well as a DVD/CD burner for my ultrabook too

Great device for £18.99

Also, if you connect to it with any device that has a web browser type 192.168.208.1 into the url bar and you should get to the web ui - just click the login button (no password) and you should be in.

There is a windows 8 app for it too here - tsstodd.com/eng…on/

The website is extremely slow at the moment, for me anyway? Copy of it on my dropbox account here if you need it

I've got a usb 2.1A car socket, so is there a retractable cable available to power the unit via this socket?

Hi,

I have a quick question, would this work as a WiFi hub to connect two Tablets together so my kids can play Minecraft together?

Paul.

Me too got a question... can this be used to install windows wirelessly to ultrabook ?

You'll have to plug it in via USB if installing Windows.

Hi All - think I got the last one from Amazon - it is actually really good. Works on all my devices after I upgraded the firmwire.

Works great on its own - yes you have to dsiconnect from your home wifi is using at home but being able to multi stream different films from either DVD or external drive is fab, makes it great for the car & holiday - not bad for £18.99

Just got mine, but the software is a disaster. Can I set it up to join the WiFi network? I changed the SSID settings, but then I lost connection. Still need to change the IP address for it to work, but how do I do it? Designed by an idiot or a committee, if you ask me.
