That's a lot of product for not a lot of money

TDX-WFTT gives you £20 off the price making it £159 which is even better

Use Code TDX-PKJK for extra £20 off ;-)

It will not allow the stacking of codes on this

1.1kg and 8.5 hour battery. Very compact but functional product!

Anyone know what the battery life is like when running Crouton or any other way of using Linux?

Pretty sure this is terrible performance wise. Surely it's better to get the Acer C720 for a few quid more?

Not really looked into Chromebooks. OK to play Netflix / Spotify / BBC iPlayer with them?

Acer C720 or CB3 are far better than the samsung Chromebook. Miles apart in performance for the same price. Stay away from this one. I thought it was great until I used an intel based Chromebook.

Yes to all, nearly everything a normal person would use the internet for can be done with a chromebook, with the exception of skygo (Although Silverlight apparently being discontinued) and things like unity.

They'll do all of that but Netflix and BBC iPlayer will struggle with the exynos processor in this samsung. Best to get a Chromebook with intel or Nvidia Tegra K!

Not sure about Netflix as I don't use it but I watched iPlayer in HD with my Samsung & it's smooth.

The c720 is £159 from tesco using the same code I'm not really too savvy with these but if most people are saying they're better then the c720 is a better deal

I run Linux via crouton but on an HP 14 Chromebook, no appreciable reduction in battery use. HOWEVER I'd be slightly wary of the processor on this machine if you wish to run crouton - I'd advise going for an Intel chip on a CB unless anyone here has experience of running this processor.

However I can thoroughly recommend Chromebooks as a concept - wonderful little machines.

Managed to get the HP 14 with 4GB of RAM for £152 new from eBay! My 12 year old wanted one in turquoise, and they're roughly £240 in shops. Won the auction at £190 on ebay, but when I checked out I had a 20% off in this category! Happy with that.

I think these things are really going to kick on now with the added bonus of the (albeit slow) rollout of Android apps.

Exynos Processor is the slight let down, but then at this price that is kind of expected. Samsung's are generally quite nice.

That may be your experience but my wife and daughters all use CB's, my two daughters use this model and they're on Netflix all the time - works very well.

Guys Chromebook is now old and outdated, slow processor and poor screen. On eBay you can get the much superior HP Chromebook 11 with IPS screen for around the same price refurbished or even new.

Argos are also selling these refurbished on eBay for £137.99 including delivery. That's a more realistic price and is basically new.

Tesco profiteering with this price. That is above tsp last year.

The HP 11 also has a poor CPU, but granted, the screen is much nicer.. The C720 has an Intel Haswell CPU and is much faster, but poor screen.

Have one of the 3G versions of this. Can't fault it. Great battery life and it runs Crouton fine.

Toshiba Chromebook 2 seems to be nicest for the price, can grab one of them refurbished through Tesco for £160 :P 1080p screen 13.3 inch screen & Intel processor.

Was this price when I got one nearly two years ago? Wasn't great then really, but I think that was more my dissatisfaction with Chrome OS. Chances are it still runs that fine but it's too much for too little really.

you've got your wires crossed, toshibas chromebook 2 isnt out in the uk yet.

The question is, when will the chromebook 2 be out? First quarter of 2015, so could be Jan 1st or perhaps more likely March 31st. I'm holding out for that one at the moment.

me too. my laptop is on it's last legs so i'm hoping it's sooner rather than later. i was tempted to get one through amazon as they'll import from the usa and pre-pay vat and import duty so no worrying about a large bill but it adds £45.

Indeed you are correct Apologies!

apologies are not necessary kind sir

I was in doubt before before getting this chromebook because reviews had said the cpu is a let down and it runs sluggish.

This is not the case at all! Yes when the product was first released chrome os wasn't very well optimized for ARM cpus but after updates this is no longer a problem. For example 1080p video runs very smoothly, which once wasn't the case.

In reply to the Linux question. This runs crouton absolutely fine. I run arch linux and I've had no problems what so ever. Battery life doesn't seem to take a hit either which is great. The battery on chromebooks is the reason I got one to be honest. I code so its great to take around with me.

Only downside I'd say is yes the screen isn't so great. However this isn't an issue for what I use it for.

Thanks for the feedback, good to know about the cpu and chromeos. Which app are you using for coding, I've tried Nitreous Code Envy etc, for Python, would be interested on your take?
