Was £100 recently, saw it today in a Harrow store, probably nationwide.

Is a VERY Orange phone, (branding, etc) and is a bit quirky, but also has some very good points.

Runs ics 4.0.4 which will soon be upgraded to jb (this month)
Has root
Has xolo rom (no orange ware)
Expandeable storage up to 64gb
Very fast (as fast as s3)
BAD:::::::::::
Locked down
Bootloader locked and will never look like to be unlocked
Very hard to unlock (but it is possible)
Cheap make and designs (power button usually breaks and micro cracks around the screen after 5 days)
Good apps aren't still compatible.........

Install Apex Launcher to get rid of the stock Orange crappy interface.

Good phone.

x86 tastic.

It's relatively easy to change the Orange branding to a more stock like interface using a Xolo X900 update. You can root it too, but there are no custom ROMs due to the locked bootloader. If you want to change the UI or root it go to:

modaco.com/for…om/

This phone is really smooth for this price. It has the performance of a mid range ARM phone. The battery life is slightly poorer but not unbearable. Great screen, big and sharp and clear. Not IPS quality but very easy to read and use.

Watch out that Orange require you to own a phone for 6 months before you can unlock it. It also uses a micro sim so be prepared to snip your full size SIM if you want to use this.

I have one and I'm very pleased apart from the unlocking thing.

Look at this comparison with the iPhone 4:

anandtech.com/ben…570

I have the two and the iPhone feels sluggish in comparison. The only thing the iPhone has in it's favour would be the really crisp screen. An iPhone 4 costs around twice as much. Second Hand.

This is a third of the price of my current phone but probably twice as good!

Great deal OP, good find!

I nearly got this at Xmas, but got the S2 cheap instead. It's certainly an interesting phone, and I like the size, shape, etc.

Buy buy buy! This phone is a steal at this price.
Build quality could be better but has a sharp 1024x600 screen, micro HDMI out, 1080p video recording, 1GB RAM and snappy 1.6GHz Intel cpu.

The locked bootloader and lack of soft/simple unlock stops me from buying this, but for those on Orange who don't want to tinker too much, this is a lot of phone for £80.

Is there another sim which would work with this phone, Virgin?

from the early reviews, app compatibility was seen as a problem - anyone know which apps wouldn't work on this?

Install Apex Launcher to get rid of the stock Orange crappy interface.

I prefer Action Launcher, there aren't any other launchers as good for app management/finding apps. Although I don't know if it's supported on this phone.

What's the screen size? You have to wait 6 months before you can unlock it?? That's poor from Orange. I'm assuming this runs on android?

got this in the christmas sale for £100 briliant phone comes with ICS 4.04...bargain at above price plus you can get an extra £20 off if you work for the NHS so £60 including top up!!!!

is this locked to orange or can any of the EE sims work in it?

Looks pretty decent for that price. Worth noting it has no micro-sd slot

Could be just me, but I can't run iPlayer, Candy Crush and a few other games so far. I have found most things work. Annoying, but not end of the world.

Yes, any T-mobile, Orange or even Virgin Sims can be used in this locked phone. Currently I'm on Virgin £12 rolling sim, 1200 mins, etc. Yes there is a micro SD slot but it is under the back cover and can only be used if the phone has been rooted, currently I'm sticking with ICS rom for the moment. I've had this phone for about 6 months and it is excellent, very quick. Yes the Iplayer app doesn't work but if you use Dolphin HD you can watch via the website. The only problem I have with it, is keeping the kids off it long enough to use it as a phone!

I own this handset. I have to say, it's an absolutely brilliant little phone. Apps like Real Racing, Need for Speed and Max Payne play brilliantly on this with no lag at all. Some Alps are incompatible but I have found that the majority of the apps on Play Store (i. e, the good ones) ARE compatible.

In terms of battery life, you'll get a day out of it. It's got an unremovable back so you can't stick an Anker battery in it.

Screen is brilliant for the money you're paying. Not HD, so you'll have to stick to watching YouTube in 480p, but 1080p playback on the phone is flawless. Viewing pictures on this screen is a delight compared to other budget phones

No problems with multitasking, you can exit an app and use another with no lag, compared to a G300 where it takes a fair few seconds.

Camera is good. Not brilliant, but look how much the phone costs! Video recording is 1080p. Again, this is acceptable. Perfect for sticking a potential viral video on YouTube. Other than that, I would say don't use this for special moments in your life.

As I'm sure you all will know, browsing on the internet is super quick on this phone. Compared it to my friends S2 and the OSD is noticeably faster.

As for the Orange bloat ware, I have Apex Launcher installed. Phone looks like a normal ICS phone. Bar the status bar at the top, where the icons are all orange instead of the normal blue. A small price to pay for a brilliant handset at this price in my opinion

Can those be unlocked by a 3rd party ?

You have to wait 6 months, then call customer service about 10 times before they actually do it (and not just promise a call back), and then you have to wait another 20 days. So make that 7 months plus a lot of hassle. For this reason alone I would say it is cold, unless you are with EE.

As for the phone, it is a great piece of hardware, very fast CPU, good RAM, nice to use.

Downsides: it has Android 2.3 button (no task switcher button), breaks easily, SD slot is disabled in latest firmware, no JB, and some apps are incompatible (BBC iPlayer is probably the most important one).

Not yet. T-Mobile, Orange or Virgin SIMs only ATM though Orange will unlock after 6 months for £20. Great phone, bought one for my daughter at Xmas, rooted and added 32GB micro SD, back cover is straightforward to remove . Very tempted to buy another at this price as nothing compares (assuming network lock isn't an issue).

So - to be clear - with the preloaded OS that this would come with from the EE shop, is this still rootable?? Or is it likely to be locked down by the pre-installed OS?

My phone came with android 4.0.4 as did my dad's when he picked his up. And iplayer can be played by setting browser to desktop mode then going to the site.

I was also able to root and install a 32GB microSD, great little phone in my opinion.

As for EE being hopeless, point me in the direction of the carrier that isn't....

I have a 3 sim, what would I have to do then, because I don't want get this phone, and not been able to use it.

Check eecomplaints.co.uk/ - EE is as bad as it gets, and Orange is topping the customer complaints league media.ofcom.org.uk/201…es/ . All the other networks provide (at least marginally) better service. Some of the virtual networks such as Virgin or GiffGaff even have great service.

Look elsewhere, this will be locked to Orange/T-mobile/Virgin for 6 months (unless someone breaks it, which they haven't managed thus far).

If it comes with 2.3 installed you will have to upgrade it to ICS first and then root it. However, when you have installed ICS it will probably report that another update is available. DON'T install this update if you want to root. It removes the root exploit.

How do you get NHS £20 off you I use my mates number?

NHS and council staff (probably others too) get £20 off by showing recent payslip and other ID (varies from store to store I've found).

nice deal

good deal, none in newark though sadly

Ok, so the deal is available from EE stores but it's an Orange branded phone.
I have a T-Mobile pay monthly sim and would like to know if I can buy this phone without having to buy the top up?
Is this possible as they are now partners within EE?
