What is the difference between this an ssd and a standard run of the mill hdd?

Much faster (especially for small files and concurrent operations), silent (no moving parts), less heat, more reliable (but do wear out eventually), but more expensive.
Sandisk...ewww

Like someone said above, it's a lot faster especially as OS drive. Essential.

imo in this day and age, no primary storage drive should be mechanical. the difference in speed is astronomical. even spending 40 quid for a 128gb drive to to use alongside a larger physical secondary drive is worth it.

Also they are tiny. I have two 3m taped around the back of the motherboard.
Is it easy to swap a hdd to a ssd in a pc tower??

Probably cheaper and much faster to RAID-0 2 of the smaller 500GB drives

Where do you buy your SanDisk cards if I might ask?

The 500 GB drives are £90, so two of them isn't cheaper than £170. Also, access times on SSDs are so low, striping across two drives wouldn't give you any worthy benefit. A mild increase, but not enough to lose your jollies over.
