2005 called, it wants its MP3 player back.

These are still handy for those who want a run without a 6 inch smartphone on them, I only sold my clip zip a year ago but used it quite bit until then

I took rockbox off mine and reverted back to original, some useful features but was occasionally a little buggy

Only thing to note for anyone who orders one is during first set up if it asks for your region, select 'other', the volume seems restricted for Europe,

Doesn’t mention the Sport - for what that’s worth.

I've had one of these for yonks, brilliant for gym, running, holidays and requires no internet data, wifi or subscriptions. Very expandable memory and cheap enough not to sweat if it's dropped (though it's probably more robust than most smartphones and an awful lot smaller!). After several years the battery in mine is no longer holding it's charge as well as it once did so I'll certainly consider buying another.
I still use mine daily (with 32GB card too)

Haha for sure. I still have mine and use it. The battery is knackered, but I still get a good few hours from it. Great player.

Think you can use up to 128Gb.

Rockbox lets you play FLAC files.
this little device still has its place despite the phone now being great players themselves. good for exercise as already mentioned, but they can store more songs and has a longer battery life than a mobile phone. great value product for basic use.

they need to update a bit as you need bluetooth in this day and age but a sony mp3 player costs £130 so you can't complain paying £24.

This plays FLAC files natively.

If rockbox isn't draining your battery then keep it at is. It used to munch through the battery on my iPod so reverted back to stock. Doubt I could tell the difference between AAC and FLAC on mediocre £30 earphones though

True - just avoids having to keep multiple formats of same stuff.
Do people still use mp3 players? What happened to your phones??? And this mp3 player hasnt got bluetooth so dont understand the fuss about this device???

Have Rockbox on my 80gb iPod Classic. Battery isn’t so great and I do miss playing the videos I used to watch for friends and Scrubs lol. Only hear audio.
I just hate iTunes so much I can’t revert back to the original UI.

As mentioned by others. Not everyone wants to take their £200-£1200 phone running with them, or to the beach where it can get sandy and wet. This is smaller and cheaper to replace. This has expandable memory and not all phones do. This could free up space on your phone. listening to this instead of a phone also means your phone battery will last longer, as you are using it less. Also, it’s more durable if dropped.

I bought one months ago and haven’t yet used it, but I will be doing when I go on holiday later this year.
Thanks bought!

This is just another hassle, another device to charge, another device to carry! Why don't you ditch your iphone so you can walk around with a wristwatch, calendar, 2g phone, mp3 player, fax machine, filofax, diary, laptop, camera, flashligh etc.... saves you walking around with your iphone right?

It's not big or heavy. I'm sure most people would cope. It's also lighter than a phone if somebody didn't want to carry their phone, as I mentioned.
Your criticisms don't apply to all my examples.

Sitting and listening to music is a hobby or distraction from work or long journeys. Not many people use their phones to play with the diary or flashlight on flights or car journeys.

And some people still carry a diary, so why don't you go and hassle them about using their phone instead?

I'm just going to re-iterate the facts I mentioned earlier. By all means, maintain your preference, but after this I'm not going to continue to fuel or difference of opinions.

Still better of with a phone imo even if its a budget phone like Alcatel or Lenovo
A phone with good battery will last long....
Any android phone with expandable memory will hold more songs some can hold an sd card of circa 128GB to 250tb these days...
A good phone case will protect your phone if it drops...
A lot of modern phones are now IP certified so no issues with ingress etc....
Not minding the plethora of mp3 apps on the playstore, with options for sound enhancements etc....you cant do that with this dud!

You've countered some of my points, but that phone would be more cumbersome to carry than this

Don't forget this is £24. You can't get a waterproof phone with expandable storage and matching battery life for anywhere near this price.

I haven't taken my fax machine abroad since 2017 thank you very much.
It does seem obsolete with phone tech, but this 'clips' almost anywhere, easy to use and change tracks, and you don't need to keep getting it out of your pocket. It works very well for what it was designed for and I love it.

Also NO bluetooth so be ready to be 'tethered' physically to your mp3 player wherever you decide to clip it....
And usually with offline music players, the lack of updates will soon make this unusable in a year or so. I will also worry about future file support if I were you....

It supports common MP3 and AAC audio file formats, along with Audible (DRM only), FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, WAV, and WMA, and it plays them from an SD card, so probably OK for a while at least. And an FM radio!!!

MP3 has been used since the 90s and files will still continue to be made. If it changes, you'll still be able to convert to it.
