I wonder if there's some good reason why they aren't

Not sure it works like that... its more expensive to produce.. the smaller it gets!

Plus, not sure if I would fancy carrying around an SSD instead of one of these, just to store pix on

SSDs are much faster (and more robust in terms of rw cycles) and it costs money to shrink chips down to microSD size.

Different type of flash, without error correcting hardware and wear levelling etc.
Just ordered this. I should note that the price with delivery is 126.86 EUR which with current Mastercard exchange rate (assuming no bank fee) is £109.49 (£106.07 before delivery, and Visa exchange tool gives £106.10).

Cheers for update Luke, not sure how there can be so many different prices and variations for the same item!! Was it a MasterCard credit card you used and then allowed Amazon to do the conversion?

Tried it again just now, same as one ordered and it's £101.21 using same card same address same account as one I got earlier!!!

No, my bank/Mastercard did the conversion (it was charged to my card in Euros). It would have cost £113.68 using Amazon to do the currency exchange (since Mastercard's exchange rate is better than Amazon's).
90mb/s doesn’t seem that fast. Am I missing something?
It’s much faster than a hard disc, primarily due to the seek time - a mechanical hard disc takes a long while to move the head to the right track and wait for the right sector to come round. OK, it’s much more expensive than a mechanical disc drive and not as fast as a more expensive SSD but it’s a good price for what it is and it slots into a computer or phone.

A modern MacBook offers more than 3000 Mbytes/s read and 2000 Mbytes/s write with its built-in SSD but that comes at an eye-watering price. For many applications speed isn’t too important, for example digital cameras and even 4k video will be fine with 90 Mbytes/s writing speed.

P.S. Note disc speed is normally measure in Bytes/s, indicated by a capital B so 90 MB/s is equivalent to 720 Mb/s (Mega bits per second). It’s confusing as broadband speed is always measured in Megabits/s (and there are 8 bits in a byte).

When was the last time an SSD & it's controller was smaller than a postage stamp?

Funny & there was me thinking supply & demand manipulates capitalism over wishful thinking....

Good card and specs. I posted this card for £86.99 from Amazon UK as a deal of the day, and I think, I couldn't explain what it is properly then. Heat @bitcoin5

the card is fast in terms of microsd cards
I remember the (very early) days when 'they' said we'd never have hard drives bigger than 2GB!

The actual manufacturing cost of these is probably around £5. The high price is the manufacturer amortising the development costs (and a bit of cashing in on new technology). In a couple of years they will probably be about £20.
