Lol me too. Would have preferred the Samsung T3/T5 instead if it was this price. They seem to never go down though!

Voted hot though

Try WD SSD portable, may be cheaper than Samsung. Was lucky enough to buy one off eBay at Christmas, brand new £40:). Don't ask me how, have no clue why was sold at that price. Tested, all fine, still in box, debating if I should sell it for much more and buy instead a normal portable hard drive.

WD My Passport Portable SSD? A steel @ £40!
Had a look 256GB is £100 on eBay and £145 on Amazon (slightly cheaper than the Samsung ones). Won’t bother even looking at the 500GB lol. Thanks for the suggestion though

I was looking for a normal portable HD. Most of them about £40 for 1TB. Spotted the picture of the box with ssd so took the chance. I was sure it was a trick, to sell it fast. Luckily was 1tb ssd. These are about £350, so £40 well spent.
I think the micro usb port is a bit delicate on these......a small design flaw!!!!!
If you can open these things up there's a standard 2.5" SSD inside of it- so if you want a cheap 500GB SSD for your laptop/PC then this is ideal. Thanks for the deal heat added
What would you need a portable SSD for?

USB 3 sticks plenty fast albeit smaller are far cheaper.

All the important stuff you want loaded fast ideally should be on an internal SSD

I use mine to carry raw 4K footage, combined with a full speed USB 3.1 port and fully internal SSD's on my workstation it makes transferring multiple 15GB files at a time a breeze instead of waiting for a normal platter drive to catch up. True you can get fast USB 3 sticks but they're normally a lot better for reading unless you spend more and get a decent read / write. For the price of this it's honestly a no brainer. This is designed for prosumers and professionals that need lightning quick storage.
I was tempted, but read the amazon reviews, all of the .com, .uk and .de reviews say the same. Not great as they break easily and data is lost as the USB socket breaks off the circuit board. I'd rather pay a few quid more for a 500gb SSD and a housing. About £125 in total.
Going by tear-down pics these contain bare SSD board with a standard SATA interface mated to a smaller controller board with a USB port. If these do fall apart and the USB connector fails you should be able to retrieve your data assuming it doesn't use some sort of encryption. These don't contain a regular SSD, they use a HalfSlim MO-297 format drive.
