I think Extreme is newer and faster than Ultra even though they're both SATA III.

You're welcome buddy. People voting cold but not sure why as this is the cheapest I've ever seen it.

Cracking price for the extreme pro, have some heat.

Why on Earth isn't this hotter?

It was -10 degrees a few minutes ago. Don't know why people vote cold when they have no clue on what this SSD's performance is like.

240gb extreme pro £79.99 vs samsung 128gb 850 pro £89 lol...and has 10 year warranty also. If only I hadn't bought two mx100's last week...

That is an extremely good point! MX100's aren't too bad..

In 10 years time, starting bid will be £7.99 on eBay if it lasts. X)

It's either the people with no interest in PC components voting cold, or the Samsung fanboys with the "Samsung or nothing" ideology.

This deal is even better for those with the £10 Amazon vouchers. I'm so tempted... only have 10GB left on my current SSD... but I want a new GPU and/or phone!

I need a new phone as well. Just stuck on what to get and need to get rid of my iPhone 5S still which has depreciated badly. This SSD is a no brainer so went for it. As for the cold voters, most likely the latter.

I think perhaps it's the folks like me that took advantage of the mx100 lightning deals that are voting this cold lol. The mx100 is probably the best value ssd, but to get the extra performance and durability from the extreme pro in the same price range is a hot deal indeed

I couldn't resist...just ordered another one...these are going to be epic in RAID 0!

Ordered one. Not sure or confirmed, but I think this is same model used in fastest MacBook air ever produced, early 2014 . Can anyone confirm?

Smoking hot bit overkill for my new 11.6" lenovo laptop but for the price what the heck!

Thanks OP.

Hmmm...do I get this or wait for later deals today...

I'd normally got for any SSD.. like a Crucial MX100... which I was hoping to catch on sales again circa £60... I thought SSD's were all pretty much the same fast speed.. at least from experience.. will the differences between the SSD's be noticed on old equipment for non gaming purposes...?

One of the best SSDs around, noticeably faster under heavy load compared to the Crucial competition.

What happened to my comment? I was the first to comment and now it's gone? WTF?

How easy is it to fit this to an older PC (5 year old Dell XPS)

How easy is it to fit this to an older PC (5 year old Dell XPS)

I believe the XPS is a desktop; in that case it will be easy (desktops / towers usually have additional slots for more HDD / SSD). It will be something like:
1- open the side panel
2- plug in new drive (you will need an additional SATA cable; about £1-2)
3- close panel
4- boot and enter BIOS (depending on PC, it's usually a F-key or 'Del'
5- select new drive as boot drive.

If you need to clone the content of your existing drive, before you install the SSD, you'll want to download and install a cloning tool (several free). Then, before step 4, you boot using the old HDD, then clone to the new SSD. You then switch to the SSD and the old HDD becomes the secondary drive (often D:)

HTH

Opinions please.
This drive,

or 2 of these in Raid 0?

Macbooks use PCIe connectors and a different shape entirely, so this is not the same. Albeit the technology is the same (SSD), the connection and shape of the drive isn't.

General consensus is putting 2x120gb drives in RAID0 will be as fast, maybe slightly faster than 1x240gb.

I am going to put 3x240gb in RAID0 so expect to see quite a jump in speeds from just the one but I suspect there won't be much difference between 1x240 vs 2x120. Personally I would go for 1x240!

Fantastic deal, BOUGHT!

Amazon are also doing the 480GB version of this drive for £170. Hmmm(_;)

Cheaper to buy x2 of these and stick them in raid for faster speeds than buying the 480gb model.

How much of a difference in real life would there be between this and Mx100?

Nothing you'll ever notice, but this is worth the extra fiver solely because of the 10 year warranty (vs the MX100's 3 years)

Can you buy a case to make these into external drives??

quite tempted to this and return the mx100 i got last week.. WIsh it had proper encryption support

I put this deal up that has now disappeared into oblivion because people are bloody clueless. Heat anyway.

Actually no mine was removed because this was posted first apparently, despite me posting at 6am and this at 8 lol. Oh well.

I saw that also but can't justify spending that much when I don't need that extra memory. This will have to do for now.
