Good price and then add free 8GB card.
This humble little player sounds as good as any other portable device I've heard. I've had one for over a year which I bought as a stop gap when my main iriver HDD player was accidentally dropped and the funny thing is I've not felt the need to replace it! Only minor gripe is battery life, but I'm sure this is down to its diminutive size

Don't forget you have to add the card manually in order to get it.

The screen is perfectly fine, and the audio quality is up there with the best of them (Sony, Samsung, Cowon).

I've had two of these over the last year or so, both of which packed up. When I took the last one back to Curry's to exchange it, they were no longer stocking them. The kid who did the refund told me they had loads of these things returned and they wouldn't be having any more in..Shame really, because I would have had another one, they are wicked little players (when working :-)

I've had one for almost a year and its been fantastic. Earphones are starting to be a bit temperamental now, so it might be worth investing in a different pair.
Saying that though, to my ears, the sound quality from the player with the supplied set is spot on.

I've had one of these since they came out and it's take a lot of abuse and it's till working well.

+1

This was just posted a week or so ago. I ordered it then, and it came without the 8gb memory card. Sent it back, still waiting for it to arrive and hoping there is no hassle getting my money back. Beware that play.com won't service problems after 28 days and you'll have to deal with the manufacturer.

I placed an order last night, but had to second guess why on checkout it did not mention anything about the free card, so I went back and it is quite obvious you have to add it but like others have said it can be over looked, so delete order and renew with free card added, all is well again.

If you order don't expect this before Christmas! I've had stuff dispatched from Play for over 2 weeks and still hasn't arrived. Colleagues at work are experiencing the same. This new wave of snow won't help either.

Mine has never let me down, can't rate these highly enough. Don't know what happened to Macsen? Bad batch maybe, never heard of a reliability issue with them.

INTEGRATED sdcard unlike my crappy zen. Awesome sound, auto resume for podcasts audiobooks etc.. to be honest I feel like a stuck record as I say all this everytime they come up, but I really like these, best MP3 I ever had. Rockboxed mine and the battery now lasts forever (I told you a zillion times not to exagerate!!)

I have one too, saw it on the gadget show and read reviews and decided it was the one for me.

Sleep function is great, battery lasts well too.

You can also flash with rockbox for various stuff that the standard firmware can't do

If my rockboxed 1st gen iPod nano ever gives up I'll buy one!

Does the rockbox firmware still let you bookmark audio books and continue where you left off if you decide to listen to some music and come back to a book?

I own one, after a couple of months I currently have battery issues, the charge only lasts 1/2 hours, plus the battery drains when it is switched off.

Ive had my clip + for awhile now and a clip for 2 years aswell as a fuze!.

All solid players, much better than any crap from Apple and is certainly on par with Sony/Cowon which are the best performers... you wont get a better cost effective unit anywhere else, excellent playback functions (gapless/Lossless support and way more!), battery life is pretty good for the size and the expandibility is just the icing on the cake!.

If i remember rightly, theres a 2 year warranty with these players. I know mine has 2 years specified on the packaging, so if you got a problem contact sandisk and they will probs sort it out :).

Never heard of the poor reliability of these units (all mine been fine), as someone mentioned i suspect its a poor batch. Try and take it back to the shop you got it from. Battery lasting only 1/2 is a serious fault imo, best try and contact the retailer or sandisk asap!.

I bought a four gig clip+ when currys sold them of cheap. I have been happy with it since day one using cheap sony earphones. I have had one or two issues which were fixed by reinstalling the firmware. The audio recor function is great but I can only get it to record onto the internal memory.

I have a Sony NWZS544BS and a Sansa clip +.
The Sansa is just as good with the supplied headphones. It also survived a full wash and spin cycle while inside a pair of jean pockets with no problems!

only prob is when the batt eventually dies

Installed Rockbox on mine and it now plays flac files perfectly, nice sound.

Got two of these. One has been through the washing machine and still works (with diminished battery life although recently it seems to hold more charge).

If you want something to play music on the go, look no further. This is really a bargain. Can't believe I spent about £170 on the first iPod Nano.

Crap, I never saw the thing about adding a card and the cs woman never mentioned it when I called. It just arrived back with them today and I requested a refund; I'm going to worry about this until it's resolved. Sure hope that doesn't take long.

Just to add a note about the player itself though, I already have one (the one I ordered from Play was for the hubby). I have the regular Clip, not the clip+, and really love it. Great sound (just make sure the setting is "rest of world" or else it's low), and it holds your place simultaneously in different folders -- audiobooks, podcasts and music.

hsh - can't believe this was posted a week ago and the deal is still there.
Managed to get one for my parents.

Also, thanks [other poster] for the suggestion of using RockBox to increase battery life. I'll give it a go!

Heat added - great little (and I mean little) player, well worth the money. Got a cheap 8GB one off eBay to replace my 20GB Rio Karma which eventually died after years of abuse. Battery life is okay on these, but watch when it gets to 50% - drops very suddenly to zero : just keep it topped up on your PC/lappy. Sound quality as good as the Karma, meaning once I again I sidestepped the lure of the iPod. iPod SchmiPod. Great forum too on the Sandisk site

Down to £36.99 now (still with card)

I forget to order the card and phoned play, they still sent the 8GB card for free.

Just bagged another at £24.97 (no extra card) from DSG group (PCWorld).

I ordered one of Play.com, only thing is the wire to connect the mp3 player to your laptop wasn't in!! So annoyed as I have been waiting ages for it to come through and this happens...happen to anyone else?

Very odd. They come in one of those heat sealed clear plastic enclosures with separate compartments for player, earphones and mini USB to USB cable. Had the plastic been tampered with? Check this unboxing review for what you should have received :

No I deffinatley did not get it. I watched the video to see what I should have got, my pack was fully sealed but it only had the mp3 player and headphones. I emailed play.com saturday and still no reply from them. After reading the reviews about play.com i'm starting to slightly regret purchasing from them

what card do you need to add to the basket, this is ideal for me.

Nothing came up for me throughout the whole process, no options to add extra card and no mention of a show special offers tab as some have mentioned. In the end I telephoned and they said it is a bundle that comes out as one ie you get the free card with it automatically!

Unfortunately my experience is the same, if anything the newer ones seem less reliable than the older ones. My first one lasted 9 months, the second six days and the third a couple of months and that's done now as well. I was particularly gentle with the last two but no luck, what's particularly annoying is that my original Clip which has had a much tougher life (including going for a swim) still works perfectly. Its design seems much more durable particularly around the headphone port but its screen is rubbish and it lacks expansion which is why I've tried to persevere with the Clip+'s.

I think I've had enough of them now, they're a superb little player offering excellent sound quality, expansion and support mass storage through mini USB plus there's nothing else I can find like them on the market. However none of that is any good if the player keeps failing.

John

I have an original 2gb Sansa clip (V1), which i bought when they first came out and it's still going strong.
I loved it so much, i went for the 8gb Clip+. (reduced at Currys). After a couple of weeks it packed up, however, around a month ago, i thought i'd plug it into me pc and see what happens. Well blow me, it only started up and it's working fine now... Go figure.
I used to dabble in high end Hi-Fi equipment and i can say that the sound quality of these little babies; when used with a decent pair of phones, is nothing short of astounding (if it's a good recording, like).
