Been trying to work out if this is better than the clip zip ? Do both have create playlists on the player and are both easy to remove eu limit ?

Thanks

Zip is newer, but this one is fully supported by Rockbox 3rd party firmware which makes this a very capable and sweet sounding device. It's a tough call, I would probably get the old one at this point and for this price.

In fact, if you DONT have one yet, and don't buy one now, you are crazy. Certifiable. Honest, they're that good.

PS plan to get some new headphones though!

Thanks for the reply, any idea about creating playlists on the player (Main thing i want as well as no eu limit !) ? Already have my eye on some JVC HAFX1X Xtreme Xplosives. (In ear) I have a sony walkman at the moment and i can't seem to get in to the settings to change the region so i can remove the eu limit. It's a great player but it's not loud enough ! I am not bothered about if its 4gb or 8gb (I like the white zip) 20gb with the spare 16gb memory card i have from my broken san fran would be enough. I would rather buy from amazon as these can break and i know amazon are great for returns/refunds !

I don't have one but it seems pointless buying the older one when you can get the newer one which should only really be better ..... ?

Thanks again !

Thanks much appreciated to both of you ! Now just need to decide which. It seems the simple ideas are always the best........ Just got to hope amazon price match now

Yes, would be good if Amazon could price match.
Zip has sturdier clip and larger colour screen (tho apparently not as bright as clip+), but no longer shows track numbers on screen, eg 1/40 so you know which track of all tracks on album/audiobook/playlist is playing - which is a major failing in my book.
Sound is the same excellent quality according to reviews.
Both Play's offers on the Clip+ and the Clip Zip are good at the moment though; either one is a good buy.

Just been price matched by Amazon.

Amazon are just alot better from my experience (Many others as well) I am 100% sure it will be easier to return to amazon than play if you have a problem. They will always get my money when they are the cheapest or joint cheapest on anything ! (Earlier in the year they accepted 3 returned tvs without problem from me. Which is why comet, currys ect wouldn't get my vote as i had to take a huge loss because i "had turned on the tv") Play are still ok but amazon will always get my money ........

Great find OP, ordered from Amazon - agree with Gunner4Life's comments.

(Though I wouldn't usually given he's a gooner!)

Excellent wee machine., bought this for £32 from Amazon couple of months ago. Sound quality and volume excellent

Thanks OP...been waiting for this after missing it earlier! ordered from Amazon...

Forgot to ask if a 32gb card works in these ? Thanks

I use mine every day but it does crash at least once a day as well, sometimes the crashes only last a few minutes, sometimes hours, sometimes days.

Mmmm, did it crash when using a smaller one. I have a spare 16gb from my broken san fran. However I am also considering buying the CPWH Archos 70 tablet for £99.99. Can't decide if i want to take the plunge. Seems I might be about to enter a small spending binge oO

I think the bigger the memory card, the longer the refresh time.
I have read that crashes and freezes can be caused by poor tags.
Anythingbutipod.com is a good source of advice (check out the forums)

It's not so much the size of the memory card as the number of songs on it (though the two often go hand in hand). I've had a Clip+ for nearly two years; poor tagging (particularly comment fields on ogg vorbis tags) can make it freeze when reloading the tag library (which it only does when the contents of the internal memory or uSD card change). It has frozen once or twice in normal operation but came back fine when I reset it by holding the power button down for a few seconds.

Who honestly cares? The first thing you do with a Sansa is to put Rockbox on it, because to be perfectly honest, the default software is atrocious. My Clip+ seized up when confronted with a low bitrate WMA file and decided it wanted to refresh the whole library mid song. Sansa needs to hire some better programmers who understand usability.

great price

Rockbox was completely and utterly unstable on mine. I'd be lucky to play 2 songs in a row without it freezing. Plus the font size is tiny. True it can be changed but it just looks messy
at a larger size.

Going back to the OFW made me realise how nice and clean, readable, and functional the standard interface is.

Don't know whether to get one of these or an iPod seen as though my phone (which I used for music) has messed up! I am not good with all this program stuff you all seem to be going on about so is it worth me getting this?

now Amazon have price matched it makes the 4gb one more expensive than the 8gb on Amazon!!

Got this last year for £29.99 with an extra 8GB memory card. No heat from me I'm afraid.

Thanks for the Amazon heads up.

Yes, get one. Better audio than an ipod and no faffing around with itunes. Just drag and drop music and away you go.

Yep, looks like the £29.99 deal is over - for now - from both Play and Amazon. But worth checking in daily, as price on these is fluctuating a lot at the moment.

still not a bad deal for £39.99 if you need the 16 gb micro sd card

Unfortunately there's no stable Rockbox port for the Sansa Clip Zip, leaving users stuck with the Sansa firmware. I'm not sure I'd call the default software atrocious, but I'd agree that Rockbox is faster, more stable, much more flexible, and offers some fantastic features.

Right now it's definitely a good reason to go for the Clip+ rather than the Clip Zip.

Now gone upto £39.99
