Going by this, the Crucial MX500 gets a user benchmark score of 67 vs the Sandisk's 51.

The Sandisk is rated at Read Speed: 535MB/Sec, Write Speed: 445MB/Sec
By comparison
The crucial mx300 is rated at Read Speed: 530MB/Sec, Write Speed: 510MB/Sec

You may notice a slgiht difference in large file transfers, in day to day use the difference is probably minimal or imperceptible.
I have one of these, about 90% the real world speed of my other 850 evo
How easy is it to reformat these drives back to their original blank state?

I'm thinking I might get this but would like to wipe the 120Gb currently being used in my machine and put it in my daughters Dell laptop, re-install windows from scratch and lose all the bloatware that came with it and she might actually be able to use it.

I've no idea- but according to that userbenchmark page, the Crucial MX500 has a "Much faster effective speed." compared to the Sandisk: 88.8% vs 63.1%

Yes but all a blink of an eye to be honest. If you have a very expensive system then an Evo level SSD is probably what you would get. But if you don't,and want to count the pennies/pounds then something like this is fine.
After saying all that i have a feeling the next Amazon Warehouse 20% off sale will be with us soon so should be lots of discounted "Like New" drives available with an extra 20% off so that's what i am waiting for. You might be able to get better for the same or less money...

if you are doing a fresh install of windows for your daughter you can format these at the install stage, its the first step i believe, just make sure you select the advanced setup.

if you want a more 'secure' erase you can use something like dban or killdisk to zero the drive, you can also use windows format from the command prompt with the zero option, though you would have to access the command prompt from the installer and not from within windows if you want to erase the windows partition.

Its just as easy as formating any other hard disk or usb drive. Go to administration tools then choose format. Ensure you choose the correct drive and choose NTFS format.

You could use the tools in the Sandisk SSD dashboard.

I didn't think there would be much difference - but there is a noticable difference especially at Boot, starting up from hibernation and file downlads and tranfers.

I have both and the Crucial MX is much snappier in real world use. If they were the same price then the Crucial is better in every way. If price is the main factor and the Sandisk is close to £18 cheaper then it is a fine balance between the two.
WOW, never thought I'd see the day when SSD's were nearly at the prices from yesteryear, even if it is only nearly new

I've got this in my main desktop/media PC and for the £80 I paid for it back in the day I can't fault it.
Anyone thinking about a speed boost for their PC then for £90 you'll be hard pushed to find a better deal. There might be better rated SSD's on the market (based on benchmarks and obviously more expensive) but in real world general use you'll struggle to see any difference.
well guys thats your lot, sold out now so gonna expire, hopefully they'll get more in soon, peace.
