Average user would not notice the difference in daily use.

When you spend this much money you'd want to buy something you have recourse to when things go wrong within the warranty period.

Kingspec are a nobrand Chinese company. However much you save, it is just not worth it when you rely on this to store your valuable data and to keep your computer running.

The good thing about this deal is that larger SSDs are coming and soon hopefully the prices will be at a level that they will replace HDDs for most computer users. There will be a need for the larger capacity HDDs in the near future - as more data is being stored on them - larger programmes, higher resolution videos, larger music files, ie flac, etc, but for most users 1 tb and 2tb hard drives are fine to start with

That day was about two years ago for me!
Can attest to SanDisk warranty. I ordered SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD in Jan 2015. Speeds started to really drop off and they sent me a brand new replacement Summer 2017.
Not sure if this SSD does, but mine came with a 10 year SanDisk warranty.
I have never heard of Kingspec but after a quick google.

They have been making drives since 1995 and are well known.

They don't make the chips but not many companies do.

When I can get a 8TB SSD for £300, wake me from my grave.

I have 2TB in total, its sufficient these days, games take no time to download, most media content is streamed, photos are stored on Google Drive - local mass storage just isnt a thing anymore!

What do you store locally that necessitates more than a couple of terabytes? (Genuinely interested)

Probably the same kind of stuff that you entrust to other people's drives.
Backups, system images, home movies , films , documents .... . you name it.
I also store some things on Google drive etc etc.

My data is nowhere near as valuable to them as it is to me.
Since that is an irrefutable fact, I store it locally.

I see, I use a totally external device for such backups/archival copies (NAS box, which of course still has mechanical storage in it). That said, its purely to satisfy my own paranoia, Google's hardware resillience is several times more complete than anything I (or you) have at home!

Give them a chance, they haven't even started building proper ones yet.

A lot cheaper.
Here's a bonus for your if you do decide to by the SSD...
add 3 "Mood Essential Oils" (no idea what's its got to do with SSD) but you will get one free as the SSD counts as the 4th item. Glitch in the promotion! Shame you can't have the SSD free!

That's not paranoia. Ultimately Google's (or their rival's) service depends upon their human employees. They are fallible.
