Thanks Witch I believe Frank knows what he posts, so no has that power to approve them.
Have one of these, not too happy, reading speed is OK but write speed is not good. When copying large video files (3.5-4.5GB) speed gradually drops from 60mb to about 10 during the transfer.

I agree, Francis knows his stuff
Very good price. Would have bought it but i don’t need anything else to qualify for the free delivery.
Would this be sufficient to provide a back up of 50gb of pictures? Back hip and forget kind of thing. Or am I better using a "proper" hard drive.
Im not data heavy? Just pictures over the last few years.

Why not? But careful. It's tiny & easily misplaced
Knockout price indeed Harry Frank

Indeed it is, just bought one know to replace one I lost - luckily was only music for the car! But they are great USB sticks to plug into the front of stereos rather than the bigger ones poking out!

This + cloud storage (eg Google Photos) + hard disk if these are really important photos. Don’t ever rely on one backup no matter what anyone tells you.

Sounds right. If I'm not mistaken they get very warm so they thermal throttle like crazy :). None the less this is a great price

Google Photos is free if you enable high quality compression and there’s almost no perceivable difference.

They do say back up back up back up. If u don't have at least 3 back ups then you're not backed up. But then I guess that's the IT view.
But I got tbh I have all my important docs pics vids and music backed up a lot more than 3 times. And some of them off in my works draw. But paranoid I guess.

I have (on my PC) KnowHow/LiveDrive (PC world) automatically backing up from certain folders (Pictures/Video/MP3/Docs etc.) to their cloud based backup.
These folders are also backed up to my (mirrored drives) Gen 8 Microserver.

Not meant to be a preachy post but you need at least two backups IMHO to be safe as you can only lose your digital data once..... and then it is gone... (and not all in the same place as a fire or burglary will wipe them out in one go-hence my off site cloud backups)
Sol ardentior.
Wish this was 2.0
But regardless a bargain 😁

You are right - it gets very hot during larger file transfer so thermal throttle at its worse

Why would you wish this was 2.0 when 3.x is backwards compatible?

I'm not a tech wizard, wanted 2.0 for the mini classic consoles :/
So will it work on a SNES or any other mini console?

Do these get very hot?
Thanks, just what I needed!

I think it has got a lot of heat already
Sol ardentior - Hotter than the Sun.

The actual heat is around 70 degrees C, mine does not work anymore.
These ones are very slow, basically just a microSD card in a compact reader

I may be in IT and live by that creed, but that's from personal experience long before I got into IT.

Lose irreplaceable data once and you soon wise up. As others have said Google is free and unlimited, or Amazon etc if you're a prime subscriber, so no excuse not to have a few types of backup.

Thanks OP. This thread led me to the John Lewis deal and called by my local store and picked one up the this morning
(Mind you took a few minutes to locate a member of staff to unlock the blister pack from the stand, where they were on wrong SELs, hence perhaps why still there.)
Heat added, great price, I remember paying over £30 for a 16MB (YES MB) MMC card back in the day, crazy how cheap storage has got!

This certainly puts me off, not stating the write speed sets alarm bells ringing for me
Showing as £7.99 now
These flashdrives are cheap and small, but speeds aren't great, and they get very hot making it even worst.
I'm late to the game, but it looks like these have gone up to £7.99 for Prime Members.......As a side note, anyone tried water-cooling one of these, so they don't get hot?!
