Santander 1.79% 5 year fixed rate mortgage 60% LTV No fee's

Found 22nd Nov
I know this was posted in September but it seems to have expired and this is available to all, rather than just people remortgaging.

I've had a look today and it still seems to be the best 5 year fixed rate around for 60% LTV with no fees. Valid for remortgages and first time buyers but not existing customers.

Rates like this indicate that lenders don't expect the base rate to rise much further for a few years yet.

Just a quick question - can you fixed a rate mortgage at anytime?

That quick question doesn't have a quick answer...

do do you mean can you fix a rate at any time, during your mortgage?

As such, yes - though you need to make sure you aren't tied into any current product that could incur a fee if you finish it early to move onto the new fixed rate product

That's a great deal. Shame I've still got one year left on my current mortgage. Otherwise I would've snapped this up! Hoping things don't change much in a year 😖

Well this is for a 60% LTV. I got a similar rate for a 90% LTV a few months back but that has now disappeared, though there are still a few good deals for high LTV's. Just don't wait any longer than necessary if you want to nab a cheap rate, these can only go up, up and up over the next few years.

Got two years left on a 3.29%

Great deal would recommend this deal as I can see the Bank of England increasing the base rate even more in the very near future. Luckily I’ve only got 1.5 years left on my mortgage, but will have to start all over again when we start looking for a bigger house.

Good spot my 5 year fixed is up in Feb so this is perfect

5% early redemption penalty throughout the 5 years

Might offer decent deals, but what a nightmare to deal with. They give you 30 days to complete all the paperwork (or the offer no longer stands), but hit you with a load of extra paperwork the day before completion.
2 days before it was about to go through, they 'lost' everything and blamed us for not sending it (good job everything was sent recorded delivery), no apology when they conveniently 'found' it again.

Think hard about your patience level before dealing with Santander Mortgages ...

Sorry you've had such a bad experience, however up to now we've had the total opposite.

We applied for this mortgage alongside a Sainsbury's one and did everything online. It was so simple and have never had to speak to a single person. Everything requested was sent through their online portal and we received responses within hours. Ours wasn't too simple either due to me being on maternity leave but we received our offer 8 days after initially applying for our decision in principle.

We applied for the mortgage at the end of September and was given until the end of December to complete. Their solicitors have also been great and have assured us they have everything to complete in December. We've delayed completion just incase a better deal comes up, but the offer is guaranteed until the end of Dec, even if it's withdrawn.

With Sainsbury's it took 2 weeks after we'd received our decision in principle to even get an appointment and by that point the deal had expired.

With Santander you can also get cashback on most of your bills if you have a 123 account and interest on your balance. We're also planning on switching our current accounts too but haven't started that process yet.

Hopefully your experience is rare and ours continues to go through super smoothly.

Almost completed moving to Santander. Be prepared for a long wait . taken 5 week so far and still not done

Just phoned Santander and they have said this deal is not for current Santander mortgage holders.

The best rate they offered me was 1.84% fixed for 5 years with £995 fee.

I think you have ground for suing them for some kind of prejudice or descrimination

It is slightly annoying, to say the least.

Oh no, sorry! I checked it was valid for first time buyers and remortgages but didn't for customers. I'll add it to the description.

No worries buddy.

1.59 pcent for another 2 years for me

I recently got £500 cash back, 5 years fixed at 1.99% through nationwide. Was on a £62,500 mortgage first time buyer on a £125,000 property (right to buy)

Also free valuation of property.

It states it's on a 60% LTV

How does this compare to this deal?

To be honest looking at how much your borrowing and factoring in the £500 cashback there's not really much in it.

Sorry I only did a quick comparison with rates so do look at the numbers yourself. Also note your capital will be slightly more reduced at the lower rate but nothing to shout. End of the day if your deal was a good deal for you and affordable then that's all that matters.

£999 product fee now, expired?

Thanks OP
