Santander Zero Account - for mortgage customers - zero overdraft and international fees

A Brilliant account for those that have abbey mortgages. (please don't make this thread to discuss your past issues, every deal for a bank goes down that same route, lets just talk about the product for once.

The Santander Zero Current Account will be the only account in the market not to charge fees for customers who go over their agreed overdraft limit or use their card abroad. At the same time, the account will offer a 6% interest rate for the first year. This will be available exclusively for our Abbey mortgage customers through the Abbey and Bradford & Bingley network.

We will launch the account on 11 January next year, to coincide with the rebrand of Abbey and Bradford & Bingley to Santander.

voted hot i will def apply for this account in jan and be away from rip off halifax with their od charges

And this is only for people with abbey mortgages?

yep, read about this yesterday. You have to have a mortgage with them so just make sure your not going to pay extra through the mortgage.

If they open this to everyone then it's a hot deal, but if only limits to it's own mortgage account holders ...
It is nice deal, but definitely not popular.
so I am ... not voting.

If it proves a hit then expect the other Banks to follow suit.

there about 5 million abbey mortgage account holders - so there should be a few people that can benfit

this is probably intended to be released recently to tie in with the OFT statement on charges which is due today

I have had Abbey Zero card for over 6 months now... But its a mastercard and is first 1000 interest free for some time and no cash withdrawal fees and other stuff...

So are they now taking out a Zero bank account?

Ive submitted my details and ticked no for abbey mortgage holder.. maybe they will open this up

Reads to me like it is Abbey (Santander) posting the deal itself. Deal sounds good and attractive, but I'm not certain I like this comment (above) - Abbey is well known for their terrible customer service, something that anyone thinking of taking on this account should be aware of. Sometimes it's best to pay a little more and avoid the hassle of dealing with a bank that has plenty of sales people but very little customer service support. It's worthwhile looking at the link bitterwallet.com/san…659 to see comments from Abbey customers.
