Well it's in a slightly differently league, reflected by the fact that it's £65 more expensive...

Yeah, that's just stupid isn't. Weird how AMD market the Vega as higher end than the 590 and price it accordingly! Just astonishing!
That's cheaper than most 580's!

Not really.580's around 130 at the minute.
Link? Cheapest I've seen for 8gb is £160 for the crap brands, not Sapphire.

Cheapest 580 I actually bought was 130 new from Amazon about 1 month back. Haven't seen anything near that for a while. Lowest I've seen is around the 155 mark.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this vs the Vega 56 Sapphire Pulse at £260 from OCUK? Budget is a big consideration for me (although I'd rather pay a bit more for a card that will be relevant for longer) as is getting the card asap as my current card seems to be dead.

In terms of £:performance they seem really similar or am I missing something there? What about power draw/ noise? Anything in it between them there?

It's a good model if you are set on AMD. I'd definitely get the Vega 56 over the 590. I think the 590 is a very poor choice in the product stack right now.

If you're worried about the card lasting, the new features of the NVIDIA 20xx and 1660 should all last well.

The AMD 5700 also should be relevant longer.

I'd actually urge caution with the pre AMD 5xxx cards as the GCN architecture is officially over.

Since GCN is now 'retired' there is real chance driver support for those cards will degrade similar to what we saw when GCN emerged.
