will this work on my micro atx msi z97m?

Is it okay to chop the rear fan and bits underneath it off so that it fits in my case? (_;)

Amazing card for that price. Nice one OP

Yes, but you also need to think about, how large your case is and how powerful your PSU is!

I have one, great card for this money. Very long though!

Ordered for Christmas upgrade for my son, thanks OP

Thanks op. Ordered to have a dabble at crossfire with a sapphire 280x dual x. Hope it turns up because they went quick! There were 5 left when I ordered. I did request a price match from amazon incase anyone missed out so keep an eye on therir listing though I doubt they will as OOS now and they have it listed for £205.

OOS now

Think I just about got one, Was only talking about these a little while ago in another thread, was gonna pick up a used 7970 to try crossfire, But at this price it would be silly not to.

It is shame we can't have a system were we can have a limited number of votes were a vote is worth 50 or 100 degrees, That way a super deal like this that go's ultra quick can get the recognition it deserves.

I haven't looked at graphics cards in a while.
What's the equivalent of?:
7850 =
7870 =
7950 =
7970 =
(with the equivalents being marginally faster...)

The 280x is a generation old now, right? From the comments, I take it this is still a great deal, but is it worth the upgrade from a 7950?

No, you could overclock your 7950 to match this with no problem.

this is equivalent of a 7970

just upgraded from 280x to 290x, sold 280x for 110 and bought a 290x for 180 with 2 years warranty

280x is amazing value for money tho excellent performance, just doesnt cut it at 1440p would have kept at 1080p

link goes nowhere

It has been removed from the site

its the equivalent of a 7970 GHZ versions, so a bit faster then the stock versions of the 7970

Almost tempted to buy one of these for Crossfire, but I know my 750W power supply would only be able to handle them at stock clock speed, and would definitely have to underclock with all my fans, fan controller and hard drives. Still a very good deal!

The fans will have very little effect on power consumption. What CPU do you have?

If it's a half decent 750 watt supply, It will handle a 7970 crossfire ok

It depends on the CPU, overclock, etc.

A power efficient CPU. 7970's in CFX use about 400w so I think you'd be alright with a 750w as long as it's a decent one that's rated properly.

It does, But I have a over-clocked i5, over-clocked 7970, A second 5450, Two hard drives, An SSD, TV card, WiFi card, DVD Drive, And all the other USB stuff plugged in, happily chugging away on a XfX 550 watt psu.
When it comes to a PSU, It's quality over quantity, Would you have an 18 quid Ebay 750 Watt psu over a seasonic 500 Watt, I know I wouldn't.

Hey Rev long time old friend. Still have my old 7950 I got same time as you from Amazon on the error deal. My Twin Frozr was clocked at 1100 core and 1500mem and I think that puts it in line with a 7970 / 280x 290x speeds?

So if you have a decent 7950 not worth upgrading to this.

I wants more power because I went and got a 4K monitor and upgraded to a GTX 980ti G1 Gamer (Gigabyte), fantastic card and pushing 1430mhz core / 8002mhz ram and most games run 4K @ 60fps but some only 40-50fps using Ultra settings like Witcher 3. 1440p runs flawlessly @ Ultra max everything with 60fps.

Was going to wait for Pascal but it's too far off yet and I have seen how well the 980ti hold value so will just sell and pay a little to upgrade and I'm hoping Pascal can easily go Ultra detail in everything 4K.

Anyway nice to see you in here Rev and this was a good deal if anyone got it.

Has anyone got there's, mine all went through and money taken from PayPal, But it says it's on Back Order.

yeah iv just received mine but seals were Brocken on box no manuals connectors or anything part from cars which appears used. there was no mention of it being used it rwfurbed so they will be getting a call from me tomorrow to sort if not will ask credit card company to investigate and get money back. any one else got theirs?

sorry for spelling typing on phone!

Mine still showing as Backorder, But money has gone from PayPal, and my invoice shows that it was "Instock", So I guess by there own T&C they have entered into a contract, May give them a ring tomorrow.

Keep us updated on how you get on.

Any update on your card mate.

yeah long day at work sorry for late reply. Novatech customer service were very helpful, agreed to let me send it back for a refund or wait till more arrive mid/late next week to exchange. Told me they were sourced direct from sapphire so should be new. Guess I was just unlucky or maybe it was just packaged badly because no one else seems to have come back to the thread saying theirs wernt new. Either way thinking if i get the full 2 year warranty I'll just keep it.

U may wanna wait on your order bit longer as like mentioned before they are expecting more stock next week and do believe they are being honest when said they are meant to be new. hope you get one let me know.

Very tempted to try it coz it does seem a lot bigger and better made than the sapphire 280x dual x cards

Cheers mate, Was gonna hold on, Thought it would be better to try crossfire with my 7970, As opposed to going through the hassle of selling that, And then I can only really afford a 970.

Worst case scenario is selling the 7970 and still getting most of my money back anyway, will let you know if and what turns up.

lucky you, Your home, I'm nights, And at work now.

Decided i'm gonna keep card now tried it in crossfire though was a bit of a PITA to get working. second card wasn't getting detected till i reinstalled catalyst drivers after cleaning with display driver uninstaller. some games see almost 80℅ -100℅ increase like tomb raider and hitman. games like skyrim don't see much of an increase over one though I may have to mess with profiles with it being older.

card itself is very big, much longer than the dualx so just about fit with mm's to spare! much quiter than the dual x though. Powering both with a cooler master rm850. haven't had any issues with crashing or anything touch wood.
