This is what happens when you build stations in stupid places, you have to persuade people to use them with big discounts.

Right next to the M1 and in between Nottingham, Leicester and Derby?

Yup very stupid.

It's no different to NXEC doing cheap tickets to London etc.

Is it £10 return? Or is it £10 to go anywhere, then you have to pay full whack to get back to EMPW?

Well it was designed as a park and ride point to cut congestion on the A453 into Nottingham. The problem is it's quite a way up the A453 so you get stuck in the traffic anyway!

Yeah, in the middle of nowhere: maps.google.co.uk/map…=13 accessible by car or a pricey & lengthy bus ride from East Midlands airport or Nottingham - brilliant place for a station

It was supposed to get people out of cars, but by far the best way to get there is.......by car.

It would have been much more useful closer to the airport!

Unlimited travel, as far as I read it. Provided you travel and return on the same day.

I think you need to understand what a 'Parkway' station is. The best way to get there is by car - but it stops people taking said car into Nottingham/London. Thats the point. Thats why it has a big car park (free?). The rest of your post is not even worth arguing about.

As for it being a bit far up the A453... fair point, but there is a slight limitation, being that stations are usually best built on railway lines

Or near to East Midlands Airport

No just makes more sense. Straight off the M1 and onto the train to Nottingham or Derby ao London.

From the M1 at peak times it can take 30mins to get as far as the parkway station.

As for ticket info:

"£10 return fare from East Midlands Parkway (£5 children) allows unlimited standard class travel on the East Midlands Train network only. Valid for travel on Saturday 30th January 2010 only. No further discounts or refunds available. Outward and return travel can be made on any train, anytime, provided the journey is made on Saturday 30th January 2010. Available for purchase and travel from East Midlands Parkway station only."

This offer crops up at all stations from time to time. We have had tickets from Corby, Leicester and a few others. Had returns to Manchester, York and a few east coast trips.

I drove there 3 times last week & even though it's in the middle of nowhere, for me it's quite handy to be able to park up and jump on the train rather than having to get the bus or tram to Nottingham station and the bus or tram back home again.

If I remember correctly, I think the sign said £5 per day to park which isn't too bad.

850 spaces, non free. Specifically it was supposed to take congestion off the 453 (at least that's how it was justified), it hasn't. You pretty much need to drive to get there anyway, so you still need a car and have to spend money on general car costs like tax/insurance etc. Ok you save a bit of petrol but once you factor in parking, tickets etc. it will cost you more to get into Nottingham than just continuing on up the 453. So the 453 is as congested as ever and EMP's still empty as ever, hence this offer......and we're back to my original point :whistling:

But anyway, it is a good offer.

We're back to your original point, but I still don't agree with it, still dispute you saying its empty than ever, and that this is why the offer is happening.

But - we are never gonna agree, so lets talk about the deal, and yes, its obviously a good one.

BTW, if you wanna see a real waste of money, are are bored for 5 mins, have a look on google for info on the Cambridge guided busway built on top of a perfectly good old railway line.

Get a Trent Barton bus zig zag ticket £4.60 all day travel I think their buses go there check the website. trentbarton.co.uk/far…spx
