I think you'll find the KS3 Sats have been scrapped, which is why these have ended up in Poundland.

Nevertheless, they are good for helping your kids do a bit of revision during the summer holidays.

Anything to prevent them ending up in some cra*p job rather than having a good career.

Not entirely true. SAYs have been made optional this year. The school decides whether to use them or assess the pupils in a different way. My school is still doing the SATs in maths and science while the English department are using a method I don't understand (I teach Physics).

SATs, not SAYs. Sorry, I'm typing on my iPhone which has an annoying predictive text.

same price in our local asda as well as a shop called 'the works' in Birchwood , warrington

Does the English SATS book spell 'exercise' properly?

To be grammatically correct the sentence should read, "do the English SATS book spell 'exercise' properly?"

That's a shame.

"do the book" - I don't think so.

Thankyou for pointing out my spelling error, it was very thoughtful.

And I have now amended this, especially for you.

You should not start a sentence with a conjunction.
A conjuction by definition is a word that joins two phrases, clauses or words together. They should not be used to start a sentence or to end one.
Words such as and, or, but, are typical examples of conjunctions.

Sorry, I couldn't resist !

KS3 SATs are no longer compulsory, but schools are required to produce some form of assessment for their pupils by the end of Year 9. Since the government panicked and announced their decision to scrap the SATs without having a thoroughly tested back-up plan in place, schools can do pretty much whatever testing they please (as will be the case until 2012, when APP should be in place, although this is still not compulsory if a school can show it has a better system in place).

This means that the majority of schools will still do SATs this year (the test papers were free to any school who requested them early enough, since they had already been printed), and schools could also continue to do SATs tests for the foreseeable future.

Most schools will use the results for setting in Years 10 and 11 for their GCSE groups, so it probably is a pound well spent for any concerned parents. I know that over 3/4 of the schools in my LEA (East Cheshire) are doing the science SATs, since they are free, so this is probably reflected nationally.

The whole SATs programme is a farce and a waste of our already stressed teachers time. Not to mention the amount of stress is causes our children for no practical reason to them.

It needs to be banned! Wales has got rid of SATs successfully - why doesn't England?

Aww diddums, the poor kids are getting stressed. Should we ban GCSE's A Levels and Degrees as well? They all have exams in them.

SATS are good preparation for when they sit real exams.

Just to add, these books were available in the new Kings Heath store today.

Why are teachers stressed by this?

They have job security, a reasonable salary, a fantastic pension guaranteed and loads of time off throughout the year, which coveniently fits with their own children's holidays.

You want to try working under the ever-present threat of redundancy, your pension going down the tubes and constant performance assessment, (in reality just a means to provide an excuse to fire you!).

I don't think many teachers would know how stressful life is nowadays.:whistling:

Personally I like SATs and think they are a good way of introducing the kiddywinks to the exams they will be facing at Key Stage 4. As for wasting teacher's time, I feel if anything they save me time as it means I don't have to waste my time on alternative assessment methods that would still be required at the end of year 9.

A lot of teachers have a problem with them IMHO as it is a way of directly comparing teachers and schools. I am lucky enough to be at a very good school and also have confidence in my own abilities so am not bothered by the league tables or predicted levels.

While I agree teachers have job security, an excellent pension and lots of holidays, to say the job isn't stressful is rediculous. Yeah there is plenty of job satisfaction and most kids are great but there are also some deranged kids and even more rediculously deranged parents to deal with!

Let's be honest, if teaching was such a cushy job there wouldn't be a shortage of good quality teachers coming into the profession. Not everyone can stand in front of a class of thirty sixteen year olds.

Won't be a shortage at all:
