I was just looking round for the cheapest Macbook Air i could find and found this section on the apple website (seriously took me ages).
The prices for the base models are:

Macbook: £601
Macbook Air: £1031
Macbook Pro: £1104
Mac Mini: £359
iMac: £702
Mac Pro: £1468

There are other discounts like you can save £150 on apple care. I know its a stor for higher education and that 'technically' you need to be a student but it doesnt ask for any i.d and if youre a student its perfect.

They don't ask for id if you order from a university .ac.uk workstation as you must be a university user to get access there!

brilliant nice one OP,this will save me a good couple of hundred quid

Edited the title to reflect contents properly.

is the discount applied at the end?

Original Poster

Cheers Asusboy! I guess that makes an iphone 235 quid...not too bad if you jailbreak to use as PAYG :-D

spotted a flaw in my plan - you'd need to take the contract to get quidco....ah well, never mind!

I wouldn't worry about that, they don't seem to like Apple much round these parts. :whistling:

Which is why they stopped offering discount on the iPods. So only the over price rrp desktops, laptops and softwares are on student discounts

Apple are also excellent for Adobe software in their education store. My sister ordered the CS3 Design Premium Suite from there last week... Photoshop, Illustrator,InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, Acrobat Pro plus 3 or 4 other pieces of software like Adobe Bridge... retail price somewhere in the region of £1600+... education price £245. arrived next day.

Although Apple don't ask for any proof of education status, you have to apply to Adobe for a registration key and they ask for all your details concerning your situation.

Probably worth mentioning that there is a limit of 2 items of hardware per year with the educational discount, software however is unlimited.

soooo.....can i order an iphone from o2 and not activate it therefore not taking out a contract? Or will O2 hunt me down like a dog :-D

I know i could wander into CPW and just buy one or order from apple (from apple you can even say it's a gift) without out committing to a contract but i'm not sure that would be the case ordering direct from O2....

When the 2g ipod nanos were out, the ones in the education store were 1p more expensive than in the normal store lol

You can buy iPhone from Apple, CPW and o2 without contract because you buy your contract when you take iPhone home and sync with itune.
Apple, CPW and o2 don't do follow up to see if you activated with iPhone monthly contract because some people buy iPhones as gifts.

will i be able to get it for this price? every time i have put in my universitty details it has only come to £656. or will i be able to go right through using the link?

Looks like O2 might be getting another iphone order....will be a good test of quidco as well :-D

So can I use an iPhone with my current o2 contract? What exactly would I be missing out by not "activating"?

If you don't activate it you can't do anything with the iphone.
Jailbreaking the iphone effectively fakes activation so that it thinks it has been activated via signing up to the £35/month contract.

Only after jailbreaking/activation can you use the iphone as a phone (on any network, with your current sim card).

Nope, iPhone have their own iPhone monthly contract. Unless you Jailbreak it. Apart from that its unsure if o2 will be shipping either 1.1.2 or 1.1.3 firmware, as 1.1.3 firmware can't be unlock yet;-)

You can access the Higher Education Store without being on a University network, I found a direct link via google a while back and bookmarked it. Comes in very handy when I want to save 20% on an Apple purchase. :whistling:

awesome cheers guys!

Great find, voted hot, just saved a further £50 on a base iMac, I can get £50 knocked off as a teacher, but this is an even better bonus!

Nice!

WW

Does Apple ever ask you to verify that you are a student etc?????

Yeah, has anyone successfully bought something whilst not being a student?

Well my dad has always used his card to pay for the computers we have ordered from the education site (using the name of my college).
So technically that would mean that my dad is buying something from the education site.
They have never asked for proof or anything.

I've bought iPods and two Macs from there.

Is there anyway to get Quidco cashback using the link to the Higher Education store?

When you click the link from Quidco, obviously it goes straight to the regular full price Apple Store and not the Education store (the one akamini linked to). Does anyone know a way around this?

Any help appreciated!

After you've clicked through from Quidco, just paste the educational store URL into the address bar. I've tried it that way and Quidco tracked it.

thank you!

Sorry, so if I go through Quidco, go through the link to the standard Apple site, then pull up the Go to Deal link in this thread, copy the link from the address bar from that URL, and paste it into the address bar of the standard site that Quidco opened, thats how Quidco can track the education site order?

This is the offer link from this thread:

store.apple.com/App…p=0

And just to confirm, they dont check whether you are in education or not? My younger sister is at uni, and my older sister is a teacher, so they could do it, but it would be simpler if I could just pay directly from my Apple account?

I've bought via edu pages in 2005, 2006 and 2008, never been asked for proof yet.

I will give it a try next month once I get my bonus through as I am so skint from all the other HUKD posts. Plan to get a middle of the range MacBook so the £100 or so saving will be nice. Thanks everyone for the heads up.

If you want the cheapest deal on iMacs, buy them in the airport. I got mine, 27", iMac Quadcore for £1350 in Dixons in Terminal 3-Heathrow.
