I've just read O2's contract smallprint.
Part 2.2 reads:

"If you have selected a tariff with a minimum term, you may not move to a tariff which offers a lower rate monthly subscription for the 1st 9 months of your minimum term. After 9 months, you may only move down one tariff, per month, to the next lower priced tariff unless you pay us the difference between the monthly subscription on your original tariff and the lower rate tariff we agree you may move to."

It's £99 upfront for the 3G iPhone £35/month contract
and free for the iPhone 3G £45/month contract

Which basically means you can take out the £45/month contract (and you get the iPhone for free instead of £99 on the £35/month), then after 9 months, move down to the £35/month tariff.
Saving you £9 and getting you more minutes and texts for the first 9 months.

It also means you don't have to shell out the £99 upfront
Quidco too!!

Don't worry, you'll get one in time for christmas.

]CPW has iPhone in stock now.

well spotted

Mind you, it's £46 more expensive than paying £99 for the iPhone on the £30/month contract.in the first place.

Yes but have you seen how little you get for £30/month, it only works if you don't want to use your iPhone as an actual phone!

So free iPhone - £45 for 9 months then £35 for next 9 months + £60 quidco if going via CPW = £660

of iPhone £99 and £35 for 18 months + quidco = £669

Yep, £9 saved over 18 months

True, but the minutes and texts on the £30/month are abysmal

75 mins 125 texts on £30/month 18 months + £99 upfront = £639

Or using my method
1200 mins 500 texts first 9 [email protected]£45 month, 600 mins and 500 texts there after on £35/month with no upfront fee = £720

£81 more over 18 months, or £4.50 more per month for shedloads more mins and texts

wozwebs;2497953

Yep, £9 saved over 18 months

and double the minutes for 9 months
and you don't have to pay £99 upfront

This is how I work it out not including Quidco

Option 1 £30 x 18 = £540 + £99 =£639
Option 2 £45 x 9 = £405 + £35 = £440 + (£30 x £240 = £680
Option 3 £35 x 18 = £630 + £99 = £729
Option 4 £45 x 9 = £405 + (£35 x 9) £315 = £720

Sounds good to me......

after 9mths you can keep reducing your price plan if you want to.......

Quidco states:
"Please read the following before proceeding:
The cashback is only paid out on sales, not on preorders/registrations of the IPhone."

Hence, some ppl have reported ]issues on cashback tracking at Quidco for iPhone pre-orders.

Thanks for the heads up.

Probably best to wait until it's in-stock online if you want to ensure you get the quidco

It's in stock at ]CPW, as mentioned earlier.

quidco is only £20 for iphone contract on cpw.. @ 17.17 10/07/08

"£20 for any contract taken out with the IPhone"

Can you just order one of these and jailbreak it therefore not signing up for anything?

Nope, you have to sign up to an 18 month contract in store before you take away the phone

Good find.

Have been really excited about the iPhone ever since I was told about a month ago I'd be able to upgrade. Now they tell me I can't.. despite the fact I'd be giving them over a grand, compared to the £180 they'll get if I finish up my contract then change providers. Not the smartest move on O2's part!

so you want the downgrade your upgradings to the downgrading to the 10x's fasterings from mobile network providing

Good piece of work from killfelix. repped:thumbsup:

do you get free ringdings?

Don't forget, for those of you with an original iPhone (unlocked perhaps!) you can virginise it, then get a PAYG O2 sim card. £10 per month gets you unlimited data and wi-fi. These should be available tomorrow.

Frankly, for £45 a month I'd expect a phone that blew me off on demand - or at least had a flash for its camera.

interesting, wish i didn't have a contact elsewhere..

dam it, i got to wait till the crackers can jailbreak it and unlock it before i got is as im only 17 so no contract for me, at least i have the old one till that day, dose anyone know when this is avalible as payg

samhodgkinson6;2500602

christmas may be :whistling:

Italy have it on PAYG I believe so you can always fly out there and get it :-D
It's about 300 - 400 squid

EDIT: itwire.com/con…53/ Says O2 briefly posted PAYG details before taking them down. 300 quid for a phone is still extortionate though

This had me in hysterics....thank you!:-D

I'm already an iphone user, can I upgrade to the 3g one via the CPW web site or does it have to be via the o2.co.uk site?

Thanks

Best bet is to wait untli they update Ziphone to support 2.0

iPhone 3G is too £££ for an 18month contract. can't wait for the payg option.

youve been watching too much phone jacker

quoting from your copy of T&C, I read it as you can move to next lower priced tariff, but you will have to pay the difference, i.e. paying the original tariff, but using the lower. so no money saving really.

please correct me if I am wrong.

It means if you want to move down more than one tariff you have to pay the difference, but you're allowed to move down one tariff per month. I think.

Well done for finding this....

Lets face it, it is really too expensive over its 18 month term isn't it???

Over £500 for a ipod with a phone built in???

yes, you may move down one per month, but it clearly state "...unless you pay us the difference between the monthly subscription on your original tariff".

so really regardless of how which lower tariff you end up (one per month), you will be paying the cost of your original tariff.

please clarify.
