Save £9.75 on Post Office passport check and send £72.50

So we all hate paying to renew a passport, but we also hate paying the post office for check and send even more...

Well use the government online passport application form (free) and save the £9.75!

You fill the form online, it only gives you the boxes you need to fill in so make sure you get the information right (guidelines provided on the site next to each question) and there you go!

I hate the check and send service.
Charging you to do Jack *hit.
It wouldn't be so bad if they actually spotted any potential mistakes or provided a guarantee that if the application isn't successful first time then you get the check fee back.

After filling the online form, you have to print it and then post it and it will cost near enough to 9 pounds

Effectively save money by not using check and send which has always been an optional service.

I've never used it, just double check it yourself.

Make sure you use the official government site when applying online. There are lots of scammers out there and do not rely on the first result that Google gives you.

I would not even think of sending my passport via recorded delivery. I have lost many items which were sent via this option over the years and the Royal mail were not interested. The most you will get is a book of stamps as a compensation

I used the check and send.....there and back in six days, guaranteed delivery, less chance of your passport going missing, yes a little pricey, but once every ten years, its less then a pound a year.

for passport always use special delivery don't send by recorded delivery so better to go for check and send .

This is the problem I'm having... I have 5 passports that need doing and paying nearly £50 to have them check and send is a lot of money!!! Don't know what to do lol

For the first time I used check and send service. First they didnt want to accept the person who signed it for me ( despite of I spoke to HMPO and they said it would be OK) then they didnt notice one mistake which was on their side. So never ever using this service. From now on I just double check it myself and send it via signed special delivery so I can track it online.

is his a joke, hasn't this always been an option, I've been using this for ages.

Go on where is the hotukdeal??????

I needed 2 passports, didn't use click & send . checked everything myself & the one thing I did want double checking rang passport office to confirm. I also downloaded a passport photo app on my mobile took the photos & printed them.off at home. Then sent them special delivery....sent them Monday, recieced them back following Monday. No problems at all, even revived text alerts to advise at which stage they were at. Received, printed, couriered.

Get an Irish passport. Much cheaper.

I agree with the comment above. My parents had lots of problems at the post office with their passports so I decided to use the online service (although be aware to make sure it's the official website). I had to get 3 passports for my kids and it couldn't of been easier as I just had to sign it and do the photo part and put it all in one envelope. Due to the importance of the paperwork the post office advised special delivery which I think was about £7/8. I had no issues at all so would definitely recommend the online service.

Optional service as mentioned. Can always save the check and send costs by not using the service.

Use the official passport gov website. Fill online. When the filled out application arrived, sign and include the photos it asks for.
Post back to them standard 2nd class post. (40p or what ever it is)
Check your SMS for progress updates.
Sending special or recorded is a waste of time and money. Not quite understanding why people are sending the application this way.

Heat for the effort! Someone is sharing wisdom- for sale of humanity- spare the sarcasm and cynicism.

*sake^typo

Obviously some people have much more faith in the Royal Mail than I do! I don't think special delivery is a waste of money when important documents like birth certificates and marriage certificates are included. Felt much more at ease knowing they would reach their destination the next day, signed for and could track them.

Covered for up to 25 pounds. When you have important original documents to send , you do need insurance.

Don't think so. I understood it perfectly. What's confusing you?

I didn't and also got mine back in six days. I thought it was excellent service from HMPO.

actually i have always found using the check and send service helpful since they spotted errors which i would have otherwise missed.

Why not just check yourself that you've filled it all in correctly and save yourself the money?

Do I, don't I? ............ It's all to much for me ............... Stuff going abroad ................... We're off to Butlin's!

I used the check and send service too, and had it returned as rejected!
Total waste of money and no guarantee it'll work and no refund offered either.

The check service is for those are too stupid to fill in a basic form or those who lack confidence
If everyone stupid or not, took their time and follow the guidelines they'd be fine. If still not sure, get a friend or family member to check it
If you sent it with a mistake, the worse that will happen is it'll get sent back with what's wrong. Fix it and send it back!
It's not thermo-nuclear physics!

This deserves more cold-ness. I'd register a new account to vote cold again.

Butlin's I tell you. No need for passports. It's the way to go. Listen to me!
