Saxon 'Fold Up' Folding Bike - £100 @ Go Outdoors

19
Found 2nd Oct 2013
Was in the market for a cheap folding bike - and Go Outdoors have one in their 1-week sale. Managed to reserve and pick up in MK store.

Think we should remember that this is a cheap folding bike and therefore compromises need to be made - it is heavy and the parts are not as good as those found on a brompton - but for the price I don't think there is anything better.

There are some expired posts relating to the same thing - sorry don't know how to un-expire so just posted again.

P.S. Folds small enough to fit into a Fiat 500 boot - happy days

Specs include:
20" wheels
15kg weight
6-speed

Also worth noting that when I picked it up - the chap had made it ready for me.

Good point - I got £4 or so off through TCB - tracks at £80 (pre-VAT price)

Cannot use that voucher against sale goods.

As I understand it, this is not a Sale item. The £100 price is the 'Discount Card price'. There is no listing of it in the Sale section.

Edit: Apologies....the sneaky so and sos....It's a 'WOW' item and these are excluded from the 15% extra discount.

Seems decent - I would think it should last a while.

That being said it's hard to tell given mine is only 2 days old.

At this money though - it's worth a punt

how portable are these?....what's the weight?....

does your montain bike fold?
did it cost £100?

if so please post a link

These are junk. If you only plan to have it in a caravan or boat for very occasional use fine. if you plan on using it on a regular basis you will end up regretting the purchase.

Bought one for a 1.5 mile commute, can't really say much before it arrives but if it lasts a year i'll be pleased with it.

i am not very familiar with folding bikes - could you make some recommendations for "not junk" bikes then that are reasonably priced

i tried a friends brompton which was amazing - but there is no way I would pay £1000 for a folding bike. £100 does not go very far in the world of folding bikes.

Initital thoughts are very positive, i've took it out for a little 'test drive' and so far i'm really pleased. For £100 it's a bargain, they also offered to put the bike together professionally (about 20quid extra most places), ran me through the features and how to fold it and offered a free 6 week service and tune up. The construction is fairly good quality, I'm fully aware the parts are probably cheap, but the breaks and gears are responsive, it rides well and can get up a decent speed - i've not had any issues with the gears skipping. The frame isn't as heavy as i imagined and for me (a 6ft bloke after years of lugging a 20kg mountain bike up 3 flights of stairs) i have no issues fitting it into the boot of a vaulhall corsa (although i had to put the bike-seat down) but I can see how the weight would be a problem for more petit people.

I am looking for a cheap folding bike and already have the Go outdoors discount card. Are you still happy with it after a few weeks and would you recommend it?
I have never used one and want to cycle about 3 miles to work, after taking the train for partif the journey. Thanks
