Rolling: 6/10
Grip: 10/10
Protection: 7/10
Durability: 7/10
Weight: 750g

The Schwalbe Marathon Plus 700x28c is the most puncture resistant pneumatic tyre there is. In addition to the superior puncture protection. It also has rolling resistance. The patented, 5mm thick SmartGuard layer, when compared to all generic products, has a significant advantage in rolling resistance. Due to its great properties Marathon Plus is an ideal choice for E-Bikes (E-25). The main sizes are approved and tested for E-bikes up to 50 km/h. Also in the SmartGuard, we use a proportion of recycled C50 rubber from old latex products.

Had mine for nearly 5 years, not a single puncture!

    Well worth the extra

BLC discount in store too (edited)

Personally, i prefer the Marathon Greenguard. A bit less less puncture protection, but they handle better, are lighter and easier to get on the wheel rim. (edited)

I have never used them. Do they last as long? And what's the puncture protection like?

I'm looking for 28mm (my bike's max width) 700 tyres for my road bike for use in the winter and wet conditions. Doesn't need to be particularly fast, just really reliable and grippy in the wet on tarmac.

    Any advice appreciated.

These Schwalbe M+ are as good as your going to get. Reliable and grippy enough when not pumped up to the max pressure but personally I wouldn't be paying £30ish per tyre on them.

Such a pain in the a*** to get these on and off the rims

They're fit and forget - no reason to take them off because you won't get a puncture!

Having said that, I hear that zip ties help when replacing them.

Marathons are bullet proof, but very sluggish I did not enjoyed riding on them, felt like horse wagon on wooden wheels

Have you tried Durano Plus? Similar puncture protection but for road bikes

Been using these for year and resisted all sorts of debris on and off the road.... until last week! Had a puncture with a 1cm sliver of sharp metal piercing the tyre. Not bad for a few thousand miles of use, hard work to fit but worth the effort.

These really are puncture resistant. I've done thousands of miles on these without a single puncture.
Rolling resistance is quite high though, you can really feel the difference.

I had these a few years ago. They might as well be bullet proof!

I bought a bike that was over 10 years old and it looked like it was on it's last legs... But the Marathon Plus tyres were still going strong! The only bit of the bike that didn't need changing

Great tyres. Continental Contact Plus are a good alternative though.

Another vote for these, they won't win you any races but will certainly be puncture free (will now get a puncture in mine because, sod's law)!

I have these tyres on my potato Raleigh road bike, which I'm going to swap with my Whyte 2022 bike so I can use the Whyte on the road and the potato on my Wahoo Kickr Core trainer. Sadly this means that these great tyres won't be seeing the road again, feels like a waste, but it's more of a waste to use the potato on the road and the Whyte on the trainer. I could get another cassette and leave it on the trainer but I have two bikes and one is crap so it can stay on the trainer even though the tyres are probably worth more than the bike

Another vote for these, they are amazing. The only trouble I have had in years was when a rock shard embedded itself between the inner and outer layer, such that I couldn't feel it checking the tyre but as soon as I pumped up the inner tube it would poke into it and puncture the inner again! Took me a few tries to figure out what was going on. Anyway they're essential for city road cycling.

Ok, so they are not the fastest tires. For a commuter though, you can accept a minute or two longer on your commute for the peace of mind that you are unlikely to be fixing punctures at the roadside in the rain and being late for work.

Great for a gym workout fitting them, unless that issue has been resolved in the last ~15 years!

Very heavy for a 28mm tyre at ~750g, but in fairness, great as a dependable commuting tyre that isn't likely to be punctured when you're already leaving it fine to get to work on time. (edited)
