Hmm, ordered 2 of these Shishion V88 boxes (albeit the 1GB/8GB versions) from Banggood, one as an extra for me, and one for my dad.

Mine failed after an hour of use, my dads failed after a couple of week use. The replacement Banggood sent for mine lasted about 3 weeks.

All 3 would eventually not power up at all.

I already had a Beelink MXIII box which I've had for about 2 years now, and its still going strong.

WiFi Chip: 6051P << should have WiFi.

No idea about Amazon Video, think it only works on Amazon approved devices?

I don't have much experience when it comes to android boxes but had anyone here used one of these as a torrent box?

gearbest.
Can't create an account, no confirmation email, even resent it.
I've sent them an email, nothing.
Even tried facebook.
The live chat does not work.

You are not alone, I voted cold, the RAM is only 2gb in this box (actually not good for 3d or 4k!!) is not reliable and despite the price for what you get it is over-priced.

Amazon Prime Video is in the Google Play store. If that doesn't work install Aptoide and download it from there. Works well on my Android box.

Voted hot.

avoid this item. I had bought this in February and it lasted me 3 months. Gearbest refunded me.

Raspberry Pi's are pretty easy to set up for that.

Probably another make of box that suffers from the common overheating issue through poor or no ventilation.

Can somebody please advise if it's legal to use these boxes to watch TV?

If you have a TV licence you can watch live TV on these (using whatever app you prefer) and BBC iPlayer on-demand.
If you have no TV licence you are not allowed to watch live television and no BBC iplayer either. Other on-demand services (4od etc.) are allowed

I wouldn't recommend this, or any other rockchip based, box but 2gb is plenty for 4k playback - even 512mb would be fine. The VPU does the video decoding and that isn't reliant on RAM.

+1 for Beelink stuff. Support and the community are pretty sound too, assuming you run into difficulties...

Had an MXIII and a GT1 for a good couple of years now with no issue...

In comparison, my friends with these boxes, like others here have highlighted, have had no end of bother! Buy cheap, buy twice etc.

Just wondering, what sort of programmes do you guys watch on such boxes , now that Card sharing is shot? Maybe Kodi, but I hear Kodi is also hit and miss with the streams.

Anyone can elighten more on this please?

Thanks

Burned by Gearbest previously after one of these was dead on arrival, customer service department didn't reply to my messages on social media or "live" chat but eventually received response via E-Mail asking me to flash new firmware despite having tested board with a multimeter and discovering power regulator fault.

Had to log credit card dispute for partial refund, would advise against dealing with this merchant.

How's the WiFi on this ?

rockchip is rubbish. pay £30ish and get mecool m8s pro+. especially for things like netflix.

My Scishion V88 box also broke within a year (amlogic version). These seem to be poor quality. 2gb is fine for these though.

Yeah you can't go wrong with a pi and more versatile to switch to other projects. I've got mine on OSMC with samba Nas and 2.5 TB HDD on three usbs

good price for 2gb, never seen one this cheap. rockchip is not crap, the dolamee d5 rockchip device gets great reviews

2g is enough for pretty much everything on an android box so will be good anyway, but if someone is not sure what these can do and if they need one this is a good box to buy to dip your toes in, but also good enough to keep as a normal box, certainly better than the 1gb boxes and is cheaper than anything i have ever seen, even many 1gb boxes on sale now

well, this box doesn't do hd netflix or 4k YouTube. it does not have widevine level 1 or hdcp. it has android marshmallow not nougat. it is rockchip. it is also £19.50 now.

mecool m8s pro + is £29.30. it does hd netflix, 4k youtube, has hdcp and widevine level 1, it's amlogic, has android Nougat, 2gb, 16gb ROM.

£10 more for a much better box.

we'll have to agree to differ, not everyone needs a Ferrari. 2gb at this price is unheard of so it's very good value!

when the m8s was around £24 it was great value too ...if it goes down to that price I'll buy it, but not at £30 as all I use is plex and some YouTube.

Kodi add ons are not working well and some of the sellers have been fined or jailed so this is why these are getting cheaper as using kodi addons is illegal

for the majority of people this is very good price point and great vfm , the m8s is more than 50% more expensive

well, if you are worried about streaming from Plex and kodi etc then the fact you can get hd netflix surely is an important consideration.

with the lowest Netflix package the stream is SD at 480p anyway!

and I was talking about the m8s pro plus, it was £24 a few weeks ago. Wi-Fi seems poor like most boxes and doesn't work at all on Libreelec which is a bit of a no go for me. a nexbox A95x works Ok on Libreelec with Wi-Fi that's what I am using

I remember it wasn't that so long ago - Amazon Store Day's (pre Amazon Underground day's -2 year's back, up until about last year or so?), when Amazon emailed to you a link to download their Amazon APK App to your Android Device (irrespective of whether your Device had Google Play Store on it, or not ... )

How time's have changed?, lol. :-)

Depends on your angle?.

CatchUp TV, BBC iPlayer are just some of it's uses?.

Other Media Streamers like Shoebox and/or Kodi are possible others too etc?.

But like I commented before, it depends on your angle ... :-)

Have you ever watched Netflix in 480p? Because that's what you'll get with this box or hundreds of other boxes no matter what the hardware.
Widevine Level 1DRM certification plus Netflix certification of the device itself are necessary to view streams in HD or higher. Previously only a select few devices had this certification (TVs running Android TV, the Nvidia Shield, Amazon Fire devices, Roku devices, Wetek boxes).

I was shocked to see the cheapo M8s Pro Plus actually has this certification and many YouTube videos testify to this. Now waiting for some decent reviews for the tad more expensive but faster M8s Pro L, running the octa core S912 chipset, which also has Widevine L1. Both these devices can supposedly run Android TV, an OS so much more refined than the skinned Android 7 versions they ship with.
