If you are going to get one of the cheap RK3229 1Gb boxes then get either the Dolamee D5 or Nexsmart D32 as they don't have locked bootloaders and will have a Marshmallow update in a couple of weeks.

You will also need to carry out background optimisation for these boxes in order to get smooth video/audio playback, so keeping background tasks to a minimum is a must.

Is this ideal for watching 320x240 illegal streams of Dutch 2nd Division football?

Slightly cheaper on eBay.
Go for S905 chipset for a few quid more to get more updates

There is always the "a few more pounds gets you better xx and yy" debate, but it's less than £2 more to benefit from a near-identical item with S905x CPU and fulfillment via Amazon ex-UK amazon.co.uk/dp/…AM/

I have a Dolamee D5 which died. I tried to return it to factory settings and now it only outputs 720p in Kodi. I have been advised to reflash it and have all the tools but four computers fail to connect to it yet all beep as I release the A/V microswitch. Very frustrating. Perhaps there is a possibility of the problem being flushed out by the Marshmallow update you mentioned.

By the way, this box has a major advantage (for me) over the D5, it has four USB ports which means that if you have a wireless keyboard (pretty obligatory) you don't just have one spare port.

Plus, the link seems to be to the China warehouse option, for 46p more it can be shipped from the EU and probably arrive much quicker.

You could try this early build of MM based upon the Ugoos UT6.

It might be quite buggy though and requires a lot of start-up process to be stopped and only connects via ethernet but it does do 1080p in Youtube etc.

The flashing tool and drivers are also included.

If you have a USB hub then that will work.

Although generally on a device like this, one port will be for a controller and one for a USB stick/hard drive, so adequate for most needs.

Thanks.

I have the firmware, I just can't get the box to be recognised by the flashing software and I have tried two different applications, Android Tool and RKBatchTool. Tlhue LED inside tx comes on when it is co and the flashing app beeps but either the button is greyed out on one app or it says no device connected on the other. I bought a new M to M USB A cable which ought to be okay but I have checked the continuity anyway.

I'll see what's in the bundle you linked and try again.

Install the driver I think is also bundled and see how that goes.

Also try both USB ports because I think that only one will allow OTG connectivity for flashing.

I have exactly the same package with the same driver which I installed. I remember Windows said it wasn't installed properly and asked if I should let it do so and I tried both options.

I also tried both USB ports - the one nearest the corner causes the beep and the blue LED to come on and the other one does nothing. I also tried some other method with a microSD card but the necessary option to install which was shown in the instructions did not appear in the menu on my D5.

But thanks for your time.

this gets pretty poor reviews, see redskull on YouTube. see my post for the mecool hm8 for under 20 quid delivered

I just tried again with the help of a friend who is an Android software developer. Before copying the files onto his computer, he scanned them and it turns out that the firmware image provided by the supplier and with the same hash as that linked on several websites has two instances of the DDOS/Nitol.A.215 virus/malware so I have abandoned any further attempts to reflash this box and I've upgraded to a 3GB/32GB one which unsurprisingly plays much better.
