You are welcome. It only took few minutes to complete
I hate being 49
The special Club 50 £10 return is like a regular "Return" just reduced to Flat £10 cost - ie travel out on the date you purchase ticket for & return any day over next month - so available for out to 30/9 with return upto a month later ie as late as end of October!
Where the old Club 55 tickets used to differ from regular/cheaper Returns is that they were meant to offer no break of journey (though clearly with trips via Glasgow Central & Queen St that wasn't easy for them to enforce at least there in central Glasgow), but I haven't been able to find all the conditions on the new Club 50 £10 returns (yet).
Well spotted! I had signed up for notifications but nothing had come through yet, and they haven't bothered to let National Rail publish anything yet:

With the new ScotRail franchise holder this replaces the previous "Club 55" offer for anyone aged 55+ to buy return tickets at reduced prices typically in 2 or 3 periods a year - eg most recently £19 in March this year... (There was no real Club at all as nothing to join, sign-up to or pay for, just indicate/prove you were 55+ when buying/using a ticket.)

So with this new 'Club 50' having (a) actual 'club' membership/registration (b) but free of charge INITIALLY (c) just £10 for a return ticket that's 47% cheaper than Spring's old Club 55 and allows another 50-54y/o tranche to exploit too (d) and 20% off Advances all year too = bonus!!!
Arriva Trains Wales historically have also offered 'Club 55' tickets, albeit on a more complex basis than ScotRail used to (though extending well beyond Welsh borders, even to London with add-ons!) - eg most recently in Jan/Feb this year.

Their site indicates there will be an Autumn 2015 promotion You can sign up for notifications there at:

Reminder: any Virgin Money customers can get 10% off Virgin Trains Advance Tickets [that's the old West Coast, not newer East Coast franchise] until 31/12/15...
hotukdeals.com/dea…271
And in a Scottish context and that £10 Sept (outward) Club 50 return ticket offer... anyone can get up to Glasgow on Virgin Trains [West Coast] around the Great Scottish Run 29/09/15 - 07/10/15 [GLASGOW] with extra savings on their Advance tickets [especially for Groups of 3+]

Anyway off to sign up... success
The discounted £10 returns show in fares results table (eg for tomorrow's date!) as: "Club 50 Flat Fare Return... Members only, ID required.... Club 50 Promotion"
I just got my email notification this afternoon so yours Will maybe still come
I would presume unlimited number ?
With the old Club 55 you could buy as many as you had time to use, subject to the peak time/route limitations.
The Club 50 terms say "You may purchase tickets for up to 2 Club 50 members. Both passengers must be registered for Club 50",
I think the significance of that is that you can (when logged in on your Club 50 registered a/c) book 2 tickets on one booking and hence get seat reservations together (on routes where applicable).
[Making bookings for Club 5x members travelling with NON-Club 5x members has always been an issue with the online booking systems]
The main Club 50 page is here, it's going to be £15 and 'Smartcard' based!:

NB: They also send you an email with your (temporary) Club 50 membership confirmation details, as required + link to make the £10 booking(s?).

I think it has something to do with 50 being quite a milestone North of the border!
Sorry. Thought I'd get in there first.
I'm 53 and I'm skint!
The Club 55 while club fee free, was exclusively a periodic offer of return tickets at a flat price - latterly £19 - but that was only offered 2 or 3 times a year, and they are kicking off the new Club 50 now with a £10 offer (ie well below £19), as well as 20% off fares all year (though only 10% at stations) and other benefits including saying...
"Exclusive rail offers / special deals throughout the year"
so sounds as if they may still offer these cheaper/flatrate returns in the future though does look as if "online" only for them rather than "at station" also as Club 55 were.

Reading the Scotsman article (linked a few msgs back) it does sound as if MIGHT not be other flat-fare offers through the year though, which would definitely support your critique
AND does sound as if one can ONLY buy 2 x the £10 flat fares in total from that article, whereas Club 55 had no limits other than spare time & wallet.
Yes, everything's free in Scotland. Come on up and we'll teach you how to spell licence in English - for free!

PS:
Got their 'temporary' card today with promise of permanent card later in year - ie much admin going on!
Reminder with that if you haven't bought your £10 Return ticket(s) they need to be bought & travel started by 30/9 [with return within the month].
PPS 17/9/15: Got the proper plastic credit card sized Club 50 Card through today with passport photo!
Interestingly doesn't have any year or 'valid until' date or any visible machine readable properties (ie stripe/chip/barcode) - maybe has a chip inside... ?
Unfortunately not in the new Club... see the FAQ:
"Can I use Club 50 offers to travel to or from Carlisle?
"No, Club 50 is only valid between stations in Scotland, on ScotRail services. Services from or to Carlisle, Newcastle and Berwick-upon-Tweed are not included in the offer as these stations are not in Scotland. "
