I've been on the lookout for a bike recently and settled for this.
At the moment it seems to be the best spec bike on the market for under £300.
It came second in this months What Mountain Bike's "under £500" lineup, so for £299 it's going to be hard to beat.

Frame: Hydroformed Alloy 6061 Performance Geometry
Fork: Suntour Xcr W/ Lockout 100mm Travel
Gears: 24 Speed. Shimano Acera [F]. Shimano Alivio [R].
Shifters: Shimano Sl-mc 40 Rapidfire Plus
Wheels: Rigida Zac 19 Double Wall Rims. Formula Cl-51-act Disc Hub [F]. Shimano Fh-rm 65-cl Disc Hub [R].

Great price. 2009 bike is £500!! [all 2009 bikes have hiked in price due to increased costs].

Very good frame, perfect for upgrading components over time.

They've also got the next model down for £246 (Aspect 40)
Only difference is it has V-Brakes, but I think the extra £53 for hydraulic discs is well worth it!

My Aspect 45 is arriving tomorrow

Just bought one too!

not bad price but when i was looking for a new bike a few weeks ago nearly all bike websites were selling off 2008 bikes -i would look around first before buying this bike.

Very good price - especially as Tredz assemble bikes before delivery. They are a good organisation and very friendly - only downside is lack of tracking information and delay sometimes at busy times.

I have been looking around.
There's not many 2008 bikes about anymore, and certainly none as good as this for under £300.

hmmm im tempted, obviously i would use the cycle to work scheme which would make the bike £170.

im going to have a little look around first and see if there are any decent deals on higher spec bikes first but this is a good one for the price.

grrr...
I placed my order at 10am on Tuesday way before their apparent midday deadline for next day delivery.
Waited in all day Wednesday for my bike to arrive but it didnt, instead got a call saying they are sorry but I missed their 'next day' deadline!!? (since when is 10am AFTER midday?) and if I still wanted it they would send it now so it will arrive on Thursday. I say yes and they take the money from my account.

So it's now 4.50pm on Thursday (my second day of staying at home all day!) and no sign of my bike!
*edit*
Apparently it was damaged in transit so it was returned to them.
I have a sneaking suspicion they don't actually have this bike in stock and are just fobbing me off.

BTW, Brum, if you wanna spend a bit more Evans Cycles currently have a 08 Rockhopper for 399, or 499 with disc brakes.

Dont forget the 10% off Evans voucher for 09 bikes (till end of October) - if you want more choice.

I recently bought a Giant Yukon from Tredz for £240 and couldn't fault it, value for money and great service from Tredz. Scott sounds good though.

Looks nice, looks exactly what i've been looking for!

Does anyone know how the "Hydroformed Alloy 6061 Performance Geometry" frame compares to an alluminium frame bike in terms of weight?

Very nice. I'm looking for a Giant Rock or Boulder and this may do. Budget is really

6061 is an aluminium alloy.

Hmmm. Thinking about a new bike but as I only do roads and rough tracks this is the wrong sort of bike for me. Seems a good deal, but I don't do any sports biking or serious offroad hill cycling so I can't properly judge.

Check out en.wikipedia.org/wik…ing
It means that frames are produced without chunky ugly joints, and can create a strong naturally smooth frame which weighs less than non hydroformed frames.

FYI, Giant have (the largest?) hydroforming plant that they lease out to other manufacturers.

6061 is an aluminium alloy.

Hydroforming is that new-age-fangled thing, where they use high-pressure water to "tunnel" out some of the frame tubing.

It *is* aluminium...
As for weight, well, 13.5 kilos is pretty porky for a hardtail, but it's ok for the price.

Am actually just looking for a bike to buy at the weekend in this price range! Would actually appreciate a little help, I was until this deal split between 2:

GT XC3: ]http//ww…499

Carrera kraken: ]http//ww…499

All 3 are within my budget, which one should I go for? Basically want a nice ride and a nice lookin bike! Are there any significant differences between the 3 that I would notice? Many thx!

Original Poster

Well I'm not 100% sure they even have the Scott in stock to be honest so maybe don't go for that one
I've heard good things about the Kraken though.

Tredz are an excellent company. Bought a "Giant" bike from them a year ago. They built it and fitted accessories. Enthusiastic and friendly service.

+1

Ordered a helmet from them, three weeks ago. And nothing but the order confirmation. I'm not having much luck with ordering bikes at the moment, my last BMX (from Triton) took over two weeks to get here, and then no dispatch notice.

Looks like a very nice bike for the price though shall consider it when I've got my fixie and my bmx's sorted (I like bikes!).

Has anyone got one of these delivered then as nadnerb seems / seemed to have problems with his?

My first choice here would be the Scott, with the Carrera a close second. Difference for me is that the Scott has Shimano brakes and the Carrera has Tektro. The GT has cable brakes, which are still good, but hydraulics are better and easier to maintain.

BTW I bought my Giant Yukon from Tredz about 12 months ago and they were great - fast delivery & well built. Before purchase I used their "Web Chat" facility to get further info on the bike - if you are unsure about stock levels then you could try this to ask.

£37 delivery to Northern Ireland :x

Nice bike for the price, especially with hydrolic disc brakes, but a shame it doesn't have deore base spec components.

Good luck with using the webchat, it hasn't been working all week.
It says they are offline and suggests you email them instead - which I did (on monday) and I'm yet to receive a reply.
These guys are an absolute joke, they charged my card yet dispatched nothing to me.
Apparently it's only run by 4 guys so I can understand if they are busy but if that's the case then I would have appreciated the truth and not be fed ******** and forced to stay at home all day for 2 days waiting for a bike they haven't even sent!

They're apparently going to call me back today (I highly doubt they will) to discuss delivery.

Ah, didn't know that. Been about a year since I used it mind you.

I did order a pair of gloves with them recently (Altura Night Vision), which were delayed, but they got in touch and let me know about the delay and when I should expect them. Would rather not have had a delay, but they did keep me updated.

bike is availble just call them

Apparently my bike was shipped today and will arrive on monday.
I asked for the tracking number but he said they didn't have one yet but would email me when they get it.
Never received the email.

Strange... I ordered mine tue about 12.30 and it was delivered to my work today!

I had to straigten the handle bars and put on the peddles then i was ready to go!
I'll be out on the trail this weekend to put it through its paces...

It should be good for riding to work with the not too nobbly tyres and fork lockouts .

Arrived today, finally!
Very nice bike, took it out for a ride through some woods and along a canal path and it went pretty well

Only complaint, which is personal preference anyway, is that the stickers are under the lacquer so can't be peeled off. I did want to take em all off and just have the bare frame.
Not a problem though as it does look pretty nice as is, unlike the 2009 version of this bike which is fugly!

ordered this last weekend, it arrived on thursday first thing.
took 5 minutes to get it to ready to ride.
have been out on it getting it thoroughly filthy twice since then and it is excellent' the hydraulic discs make a huge difference
great bike, great price, great service

Gone up to £320 now.
Still a pretty good deal though.

Hi, I am looking for a mountain bike like this (I think). I am very new to bikes so dont really know anything about it. I gather this is a good deal even at £320 but Im wondering if it would be ok for a sixteen year old, I did plan on spending about £200 or even less but if this is a good enough deal I would be willing to buy it. I did consider getting one on ebay second hand but i think a new one might last longer as I am looking for a long term solution. Could someone please clear up some of my questions and concerns?
thanks:thumbsup:

Original Poster

Of course it would be suitable for a 16yr old providing you buy the correct size, why wouldn't it?
You could probably get away with a cheaper bike though, what will he be using it for?
