Cheers for that I did find that sizing chart! So I guess if she’s 5 foot 3 tall that’s about 158 cm the xxs frame should fit her??! I’m also guessing a set of pedals are extra
What is her inside leg - not her trouser leg measurement but her actual inside leg in vare feet to her bits? The stand over height is the most important measurement when buying a bike. You want a good 2 inches from your bits to the top bar - so when you brake and leap forward you do not injure yourself on the top bar.
Here is the geometry chart for the Contessa.

D is the stand over height measurement - you want a couple of inches more than the stand over height.
Thanks for your reply. I’m not sure of her inside leg measurement it will be quite difficult to find out without her getting suspicious!!
Ah. That really is the way to be sure. Perhaps you could measure her tonight whilst she is sleeping?
There is just over half an inch difference between the xxs and the xs - 28.6 in 29.2 in
You can make a smaller bike bigger by raising the saddle and bars if needed. But you can't make a bike that is too big smaller.
Go with your gut.
Cheers for that! According to the size chart I’d say the xxs frame would be better suited to her!!
Sounds like it.
Do Rutland offer free build?
Had a bike from them last week. All I had to do was straighten the handlebars and put the pedals on.
Thanks!!
Or ask your cyclist friends, I'm sure they have some flat pedals laying around not used.
Check the returns policy. Consider whether it would be worth buying one of each size with the intention of returning one if the returns policy is a cheap/viable option?
The geometry will be slightly different. Usually with things like the Reach, width of handlebars, etc.
But generally there is no reason why a man cannot ride a woman's racing bike or vice versa. If it feels right it feels right.
Weight might be an issue if a bloke is very heavy.
I got this bike and nothing seems Women's specific but it's very fast :D.
Cycling is very fun. Next year would add XC for MTB hopefully.
Aha. Sometimes it pays to look in the womens category
Yeap. It can hold hidden gems. Esp for road bikes apparently.
