For those not in the know Scottish tablet is a sweeter, harder and more deliciously indulgent version of fudge. I've never spotted Scottish tablet for sale south of Berwick before (I usually have to rely on my dad bringing supplies when he visits, but of course it's gone in a couple of weeks). Today I spotted (and bought) some in the Aldi in Whitley Bay. OK it's still north of Hadrian's Wall so still technically in Scotland but it shows that confectionary royalty is coming to England. Hourah. I think it was £2.99 but to be honest I didn't look too closely. When you really need your fix you'll pay anything.

I haven't looked at the pack yet but, be warned, there may be a few calories in this. What the heck. If you get fat just blame the Government. Enjoy.

Oops. In my naïve excitement I may have opened a can of worms here. The prospect of being able to buy tablet less than a mile from my house, thus not having to ban my 89 year old father from visiting unless he was bent double with a rucksack full of stuff, had put me in such a state of elation that I just wanted to share the joyous new with others (and who could blame me as the only other exciting to have happened to me was being able to report the sale due to the closure of the Newcastle branch of Clas Ohlson!).

In my haste I have committed many sins. I suggested a price of £2.99, and thankfully others have stated the correct price of closer to a pound, thus bringing said tablet into the price range of young children. I may have led to the premature deaths of a multitude of Lake District walkers by encouraging them to switch from the relatively low calorie Kendal Mint Cake. I could have contributed to a wave of extreme obesity and sugar addiction across the rest of the country and I may have accidentally spilled the beans to one gent the reason behind so many people pretend to be Scottish andtalk over him. All I can do is apologise and offer the following : At least I've stopped people talking about Brexit for a while and thank goodness I didn't say anything about the excellent deals available on macaroon bars with a free bottle of Fergusade.
can you get Facebook on it...?
Sweeter that fudge? Fudge is 99.999999% sugar! My teeth are dissolving just thinking about it.
Far too unhealthy for me,I'll stick to my battered mars bars

Have u tried making tablet op?
It's pretty easy & probably costs around what u paid today, ur own batch will last longer too
Is this a special buy?
so ridiculously bad for you, but addictive if you have a sweet tooth. My wonderful (english) daughter-in-law makes me a big batch at xmas. I dont like the usual tablet, or even fudge but this I love.
Highly addictive, first bite is a shock to the system with the sugar content, then you go back for more, and then more, until it's finished!

We can get tablet in Cornwall, however the tablet from Banfshire is still the best.
Sounds similar to Kendal Mint Cake which is also meant to be an energy boosting snack, used by hikers, climbers and people with a sweet tooth. It's also packed with glucose and brown sugar making it a great accompaniment on hikes apparently. An 85g bar can also be purchase at some outdoor outlets for around £1. My dad also use to buy this whenever we used to go hiking though I think he actually bought it as more of an indulgence than anything else to be honest. There are also two versions of this too, it comes in both white and brown. Both are equally good and very sweet too. Kendal Mint Cake isn't buttery though. Scottish Cake is 400 calories per 100g, Kendal Mint Cake is a little less at 379.

Incidentally, the Scottish Tablet in Aldi's is £1.19 according to their website. No, and it's not a special buy though at a guess these look like they may be overstock from Burns night though that was end of January.

Nothing like Kendal mint cake!
Tablet is wonderful. Reminds me of childhood days when I could eat this and not put on three stones a block.
Question for our Scottish friends - can you get this deep-fried in batter in Glasgow?
It is like Kendal Mint Cake but drier.
Wished I'd known about this deal as I walked along the beach from Tynemouth to Cullercoats this afternoon and would have called into Aldi in Whitley Bay had I known on the way home.
I'll check the Chester le street Aldi tomorrow

Tablet ain't minty, either.
I thought GP prescription charges had been abolished in Scotland, so cold as Scottish tablets should be free!

Joking BTW, love this stuff!

Will this tablet cure the Scottish?I love the shouting title in Caps … Will this tablet cure the Scottish?I love the shouting title in Caps epitomises every Scot I know.

... and I thought Oscar Wilde was dead. As a point for the pedant..... SHOUTING CAPITALS HAPPEN WHEN IT'S IN THE CONTENT, NOT THE TITLE. By the way, have you ever considered that all the Scots you know shout as a public service to keep you quiet? Thanks for you contribution all the same,

There's no mileage in "tablet packer" though is there?

Fnarr fnarr. (_;)
Are people voting this hot because it's a good price, or just because they like tablet?

Oh oh. I don't need any more sweet temptations, especially ones I have never even heard of! X)
Saw this earlier in Talbot Green store. Pretty sure it was either £1.69 or £1.99.
Yuck, like eating a block of buttery sugar

correct. was surprised when someone claimed it was easy. its may be easy to make the stuff that the shops sell, which is usually more like fudge. to make real tablet takes time and patience and cant be left for a second, and takes a long time to make and needs constant stirring.

don't think I have ever bought a bar of tablet that I would say was any good.
