ScottishPower Connect Remote Heating Control £200

If you take package 1, it only costs £200.00 (£80.00 installation fee and then £5.00 per month for 24 months) I actually thought this was a good price for a smart energy control compared to others on the market out there. After 24 months you can walk away and keep the control unit and use with another energy provider.

Apparently, this unit uses a 3g sim as well as wifi, so you can control via a SMS if needed.

this is the irish company who makes it for Scottish power if you want better information on it!

I bought a wifi controlled plug/socket from lidl for £12.99 to switch boiler on/off. Works a treat.

Also check out the Owl Intuition, I brought one £116 (ebay) installed it myself, great bit of kit, easy to use and very flexible, you can also see the graph of what has been going on, and download them... if you really want to!

If it's a modern boiler it should have power at all times. It will harm the boiler in the long run doing it this way.
I have and use Hive, I really like it. My parent has the Salus version which isn't quite as good but does the job. For this price tho I'd go with the new Nest.

If after the 24 months you stop paying the fiver are you still able to turn it off remotely, or do you loose this function? If so I'd say it's a bad deal.

I got hive for free through British Gas with no ongoing charges. Doesn't sound like a very good deal to me.
Are you sure you get to keep the unit? I looked at doing this before but decided against it as after the 24 months you either continue to pay £5 a month for the 3G connection or they will take the unit back
I was told if after 24 months you decide not to continue you keep the unit (the cost of removal was more then unit cost to them). What you do loose is access to their online app meaning you loose remote access and reporting. Do not know if anyone has a alternative app that will work with it.

Make as many claims as you want mate, I've been an electrician for 10 years so I know what my abilities are.
