Scythe Mugen Max as good as the Nocturna D15 for a fraction of the price - £42.95 @ Amazon

Tried a few including the legendary Nocturna D15 and many water coolers & this thing for the price can keep my 8600K @ 5ghz on all cores under 70c at full load, I added a second fan as I had a 120mm bequiet pure wings which retails at around £11 Amazon. It can take a 140mm or 120mm fan and it comes with two fan brackets, with one fan for me it performs on par with the D15 but with two beats it by a few degrees

£42.95 is the cheapest it is delivered anywhere add the the two Amazon promotions and you can get it for £32.95 like I did and be prepared to have serious cooling performance for your £££s completely surprised me considering it's price as it's got the beating of most water coolers & any air cooler I have tested..Absolute bargain.

Unsure if it’s fair to claim it’s better than the D15, it’s cheaper, but better? Probably not
Couple of weeks ago I went through those “cheaper and better fans” including this one. Believe me nothing will beat Noctuna yes is cheaper but NOT BETTER.
So it has a louder fan than a D15, has slightly inferior cooling performance and it's actually gone up in price over the years.

Bought from Bora, very quiet, no issues so far, hot

I have both & have tested both so i can definitely say it's better even at a high overclock, some websites say it's better but it's pretty much gone under the radar for some reason.

You say Probably not - have you tested it yourself?

Not direct pipe cooling = sub-optimal design. This heatsink could have performed just as well with a smaller fin stack, 2 fewer pipes if it was just direct pipe to IHS

See Arctic Freezer coolers for the cheapest £25ish examples, or go noctua if you have the spare cash and are set on air cooling. Otherwise, for £50 and up you're better off AIO watercooling

Rubbish Arctic freezer have poor cooling results I presume you haven't tested one yourself?

This is better than anything in it's price range tried and tested.

Only thing that can get close to this is a £75+ cooler in performance

Its not better than half priced, the highest price it been sold is £50, it has been at this price since august , and has been cheaper before

Still the cheapest delivered at this present time is Amazon at £42.95 unless you have found it cheaper elsewhere? Add the Amazon vouchers & its even cheaper.

not saying its not the cheapest right now, but its not a really a deal since its at this price for months. also how does the £5 off make it £32.95? that £10 off no?

I think it's an absolute bargain it's better than any other cooler I have tested in performance to cost ratio & outperforms my Nocturna D15 which is going on ebay after discovering this thing.
If you don't like it because it's not mainstream or don't even want to try it I guess it's your loss but would obviously suggest trying one before you overpay £££s for a high end cooler that can be beaten by this - after all this is hotukdeals and people want the deals no? Something that can perform as good or better than products double it's price is a hotukdeal in my book & should be shared your always gonna get haters that buy the named stuff that don't like it when it cheaper stuff can outperform the more expensive products.

I'll back this cooler all the way as I know it has the performance to deliver after extensive testing.

I used the two Amazon Discounts to get it for £32 Amazon app and Amazon Assistant both can be found on here. But this also means you can get £10 off any cooler or any product dispatched and sold by Amazon.

AIO for 50? Do you mean some crappy corsair with whining pump? great cooler up there with quiet fan, heat from me.

I have 4 Corsair aio's none make any whining pump sound.

Why buy this when aios are the same price

I have both & have tested both

I'm loving that you have actually tested different designs and can say that this is better for a FACT, but some are still arguing that it isn't. Some people just won't listen. My mate down the pub has heard from a friend that this is rubbish so your hours of testing mean nothing.
I don't doubt that you've had better thermals with this cooler, but I think it's important to consider that you'd buy a Noctua for the acoustics too.

Noctua has great performance and is also extremely quiet. There's a very good reason why it's held in such high regard.

The review above also shows that it has better performance than the Scythe, so perhaps your fitment wasn't ideal?

I wouldn't be so quick to write off the NH-D15 personally.
Even though this is a good cooler, the regular price in stores in 2014-2015 was around £33. I have no idea why it got so expensive in these years.
So it has a louder fan than a D15, has slightly inferior cooling performance and it's actually gone up in price over the years.

How quite is this? Thanks.
not really a deal if you have to spend most of your time justifying why to other people?

Its got its plus points and negatives too, for this price you can get a Coolermaster AIO compact liquid cooling solution and save a tenner ish...

Quite? Yep it's quite good.
I love how excited the PC community still get over cooling products. I used to be a 'PC person' and I ran a small website reviewing this kind of kit for a while. I now sell it every day as a sales person and it's all much of a muchness to me.
I'm sure both the coolers you are arguing about here will be fine, it will vastly outlive the hardware you're putting it on and considering the max temps these CPU's can withstand. Pick one that fits your budget, don't worry about a degree or two here and there.

Reliability. A big lump of metal will never stop cooling your cpu. Also no pump noise.

And talking about getting excited about cooling, have you seen this?

Is it really any different than a "car person" that gets excited over a different type of tyre? I mean any tyre will grip the road, but it's the fine details that set things apart from otherwise similar products.

Well the mugen max I have has better performance than my D15 when tested and was even better when adding a second fan. There was a 3-4c improvement over the D15. It also looks way cooler.

A few test results that can back up this a good cooler and offers some of the best cooling for price/performance value compared to other coolers, it certainly has near on D15 performance at stock with one fan according to these tests add a second fan to match the two in the D15 and it really shines .

Up to now Mugen MAX has the best price/performance ratio in the air cooling area.

33719671.jpg
Below tests show it performing better than the D15 with one fan and pretty much matching the 2 fan D15

I've had this cooler ~4 years and it is very good. I would say in the same league as a Noctua but the fan is simply not as quiet.

I think the Scythe fans move more air per rotation and are therefore louder but cooler at the same RPM.

If you swapped the Scythe fan for Noctua fans the difference would be negligible.

It's extremely quiet and rarely goes over 1000rpm even at heavy loads, I can't even hear it in the case tbh.

Lots of reviews out there and all with varied results, some reviews say this is better and vice versa but having tested it myself I can certainly vouch for it's performance.

Air-cooling is quieter - if that's important to you.
lol this thread is so full of win and fail simultaneously

I love the pc community

we can't agree on anything - except that the prices on everything are too damned high!
