Very good price for a very big hard drive! Lightening deal!!

Cannot find this lower anywhere for brand new!

I was just going to post this ;] Yeap, great deal actually. What is most important, perfect for NAS and so far, very low failures rate. Looks like very durable.

Excellent price for 12TB. I just bought 2 x 8TB from CCL on eBay, 1 of 2 dead on arrival, but replacement works fine. As HavocLP said, very low failure rates, guess I was just unlucky!

Still don't get second part.. 180TB/yr.. what happens if read+write combined are more than that?

WD red drives don't come with such limitations

It is basically so they can flog you their IronWolf Pro drive at a premium. Although the Pro does have some very nice premium bits tacked on that would appeal to buinesses, like Rescue Data Recovery as standard and an extra 2 year warranty.

Nothing at all as far as I can tell. It's a recommended maximum load and it doesn't void the warranty to exceed that. In a normal NAS situation I doubt you'll come close to exceeding it either, I seem to write about 10TB per year to the SSDs in my workstation, NAS churns less than that.

I've gone for it. I've taken the reviews with a huge pinch of salt as part of me thinks that the number of failures is a lot more down to the delivery drivers handling of the parcels, than the quality of the drives.

I'm tempted but just not sure if I should wait for the WD Reds to go down

They do and it’s the same 180TB/year. WD Reds are only 5400RPM too.

I think you ought to buy 12 x 1TB harddrives so if one fails you lose less data as a result...

Never knew they were slower drives.....

fair play your porn addiction beats mine

I bite and ordered one. Just hope the failures in Amazon reviews were just a bad batch or the delivery man

Is this suitable for a desktop with Windows 7 64 bit (as a second drive, not system one)?

It's 8TB RAID0. And I need it for storage, of course. What else? Strange comment on a thread for a 12TB hard drive...

Yup. XP was the latest windows version that had the 2TB drive limit iirc.

Thanks for that. I had gone thru this before but couldn't find the workload mentioned. See it now.

Arrived today. But the way it was packed makes me worried if it will work:/

32614504-L6ehs.jpg
Well 10 of my 13 have arrived so far

As some have said a real mixed bag when it comes to packaging

3 arrived in large bubbles with a Seagate tight fitting box inside an Amazon small box with brown paper

Most arrived in single layer small bubble bag in an Amazon small box with brown paper

One arrived in their a4 cardboard sleeve thing

Still 3 year warranty.

I'll do a 3 pass write stress test on each before I create my array.

Copy the data over and then I have 12 wd 8tb reds to sell to recoup some of the cost

Reckon I can get at least £200 locally for the cold spare that doesn't have a single house use
