Nice price btw.

Sooo does this need to be plugged into the mains?

I think only 2.5" drives can be powered from USB so any large hard drive will probably have to be plugged into the mains.

WTF... It's something wrong at your end... Everyone else has managed fine!

Bought this drive on a bit of a impulse from Clas Ohlson in Manchester a couple of weeks ago priced at £54.99. Unfortunately they had completely sold out before I had chance to post the deal on here. The drive was easy to install on my Mac and as of yet I've had no problems. Not sure I'd still have bought it had I read some of the reviews. But with such huge storage for such a low price it is a very tempting risk to take.

Never trust HD reviews. Would you ever make the time to write a review of a HD? Now something creative like a CD or a book I could understand, even a washing machine with lots of features. But what exciting stuff would you put in a HD review, except that it works well and looks nice and shiny on your desk?!

I'm convinced only people who've had bad experiences with HD's feel the desire to write a review, hence you don't seem to see many HD's with 5 stars.

The 'click of death' stories are a few years old now, and judging by the forum on Seagate's website, it's the same few people complaining about it. I'd say they're as reliable as any other, having got 3 of various age that all still work just fine.

*Vincent* - spot on.
