wonder if these will be compatible with Series X and PS5?

Im sure they will be, although the next gen consoles will likley use NVMe SSDs which are about x5 times faster than a standard SSD, so if you connected one of these to it... it would be like a downgrade
Also double as a coaster.

I've been looking at the Samsung Portable SSD T5 1 TB USB 3.1 External SSD. I'm wanting something to store videos and pictures, and it's reliable & robust. This is substantially cheaper. Thank you.

I'm guessing it will be too slow for the new consoles (expected to be using PCI 4.0 NVMe storage), it will be compatible with the PS4 / Xbox One though.
Really good price. Heat added.
Good price. I paid 70 for a 1TB cheapy SSD and 15 for a 2.5 usb c enclosure.

This is very good value

Weren't the ports of the series X noted to be missing a USB type C port on a recent official image? Very curious about what the external storage options are gonna be for the new consoles, as 1TB of internal storage is going to disappear in no time!

Samsung had an offer on only the other week for the T5 1TB SSD which made it only £104

There is no official image of the series X. That’s was a render ripped off another site. Let’s wait and see, but I hope it has type C going forward. Because those massive External HDDs we have wont be able to play the new games the way they are meant to be played, or even at all.

what use would you have for an nvme ssd in a console? loading times would still be the same. only plus is moving games but surely you'd just play games from the external ssd right? hardly a downgrade

In real time use, they aren't that much faster. Atleast they don't appear to be from my experience. Like a few seconds at most.

HDD to SSD is a much bigger performance increase than SSD to NVMe SSD in real performance, anyway.

I know on 3D Mark etc the performance is through the roof in comparison, though.

Do nvme even make a noticeable difference in gaming?

I read a apparent leak early that the PS5 is going to have a 1TB NVME type drive as well as a 1TB standard drive. So I think SSD externals will work. But obviously won't be as fast as NVME.
