I've found that Seagate drives overheat - both desktop and portables - and I haven't bought that brand for several years because of the trouble I had and losing data. I stick with Western Digital, which for the desktops at least, have better ventilation. They are not perfect by any means, but I've had less WD failures than Seagates.

As a rule of thumb, £20 per TB is about the normal price. You'll pay more per TB for smaller drives, and there is a premium for portables. If you want storage, and don't mind plugging in the drive to the mains, there have been deals where the desktops come down to about £15 a TB - recently 10TB WD Elements drives was here for £144.99 (hotukdeals.com/dea…687)

I wouldn't say this is a great deal, although it is a couple of quid cheaper than the WD elements equivalent and a few quid cheaper than the Toshiba alternative on Amazon.

Excellent deal, will be surprised if they still have stock at the end of the day.

Good spot and it’s an ‘Amazon Choice’ product so I’ve posted that as a separate Deal! Thanks

Just want to help the community make an informed purchase.
I currently have one of these plugged into my PS4. It's made life so much easier, especially as I installed RDR2 last night (89gb!)
Any chance of these going even cheaper on Black Friday?

Which one is 2015? Both seem to be 2019 for me, can't figure out what the difference is

On Amazon, in the description. It will tell you when an item was submitted. For this item it is dated 2015. Also, according to the manufacturer's website. It was first released in 2015. I have just bought the newer model. When you click on this link, you will see it show a newer model. Go with that one. The newer is also a couple of pound cheaper (£47.99).

Bad reviews for the newer model on the first page.

I don't see any bad reviews for the new model - Portable (Amazon Special Edition). The reviews on the first page are for the non Amazon edition. If you filter the reviews for the Amazon edition, the reviews are pretty good.
Any good deals for a 1TB one?
5tb also on for £72
1.5fbV02/12/2019 16:16

Think it's 5400rpm speed

They all are. You won't find 7,200rpm portable HDDs from anyone these days.

Depends what you need it for and your budget obviously, but hard to see why this would be a deal over the 5TB one for £71 from Amazon.

Note, if it is to attach to a TV/Bluray/DVD player to watch films from, it used to be that some things will only accept 2TB or below and formatted as FAT32 to do so. FAT32 is limited to a max of 4GB for any file, so you need to be sure if you are storing films etc, you aren't pushing past 4GB.

Just need to be sure what it is you want it for and know what it will or won't do.
I need one for xbox one. Will this be ok? Or better going for the 5 or 6gb?
pontyslapper02/12/2019 16:27

You can get a WD 1TB for £37.99 on Amazon with USB 3.0

Worth it? Even with PS5 coming out next year?
@veejai Does the job as pvr on back of telly. For storage on a console I'd say a minimum of 4TB. I have 4TB on my xbox one s and it's currently about 50% with 189 games on it.

It’s a great drive, made by Samsung you know

Seagate purchased Samsung's HDD business in 2011.

I bought the new edition. The Amazon one. Its brilliant. If I had seen bad reviews. I wouldn't have bought it. Its incredibly light and fast. It's also cheaper than this one. This model here was released 2015. It's not new. Check the manufacturer's website.

Saw those comments. Okay thinking to take the plunge, can't see a better deal anywhere for a 2TB.

It's not a ground breaking price. But is the latest model and slightly cheaper. I've had it a week. So far it's been perfectly. Also Amazon have a great returns, should the worst happen.
4TB for around £75 on Amazon seems like better value to me.
Does this still have the Samsung M9T in?

Brought same drive 2TB (standard edition), maybe older edition but is same brand and casing. Installed in ps4, games started crashing a lot after a year. Installed the orignal PS4 drive from 2014 still works perfectly. Anyone had similar experience with Seagate?
