If the enclosure/controller or even just the port itself breaks or plays up you can salvage the drive. Or if the drive itself seems problematic you're better off attempting recovery over SATA directly than via a USB controller.

Yes.
The 5tb one of these i bought in 2014 has just died on me. Five years of loyal service.
Why has this not got more heat? Looks like a great price
