Shuck it carefully then, so you can put it back on the enclosure if it does.
will this work for Xbox one?
What's the difference between this one and the one below.

Besides the cheaper one being more ugly

The Backup Plus is meant to be the more expensive model and comes with some software on it and has a USB 3.0 hub built in. That's it really. Same drives inside and same performance.

So technically this should be more expensive?

Anyhow, I'll skip this due to some reviewers mentioning issues with Linux.

It usually is, yes.

Amazon reviews are filled with idiots. It will be fine with Linux, you'll just want to reformat depending on how filesystem it comes with.
Is this one of those drives that have hardware encryption on the external controller? eg so if have a problem, or want to schuck it at a later date, can't access the files without going via the original pcb?
the drive is shuckable - i would double check it with hd tune - the 8gb one took about 16hours to check..

If you do shuck - the clips are designed to break ..

P.s if you are injury prone - you will hurt yourself, unless you hulk the case..
Brought the 8TB version last week, slow transfers of around 22 to 120mb and noisy as hell, seriously its ridiculously loud.

Is HD Tune Pro worth purchasing for £23.94?

My 15-day "Pro" trial expired but didn't realise there was a free version...
What free alternatives are recommended?
I'm currently trying out Western Digital's free tool "Data LifeGuard Diagnostics" to check a 10TB Elements drive

There are a million free ways to check a drive. Easy one:
chkdsk /r X:

But better is to zero-fill it and check at the same time which you can do with:
format X: /fs:NTFS /p:2

Full formats rather than quick zero a drive which makes data unrecoverable to boot (don't use with a SSD).

I bought this for my xbox last time it was on sale. It works fine. It was cheaper last time though, £79.99.

It was £76 last week, so I guess the price fluctuates with deals
Sorted, my son will be happy now he no longer has to keep swapping over his external drives to play different games

Probably a good idea not to use that with an SMR drive either...

Never mind about the drive just charge your phone/s!

Just used this to check my drives 13 hours each for 6Tb... both drives passed with flying colours. Non destructive test for full drives fyi.
I did this to a 5TB drive back end of 2016. It’s in a cctv dvr recording 24/7 and still going strong. Hope I’ve not put a Curst on this drive

YouTube is your friend
Now £81.99.

Also worth mentioning that this drive includes 2 Months Free Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan. Handy if like me you're already a subscriber.
Was £77.99 throughout Black Friday week and Cyber Monday, only got to 302° heat. Now it's more, it's even hotter

Still put off by the reviews mentioning their hard drives dying. Wish this one here was on sale again. My dumb *** didn't buy it on black friday.

The one that I linked or the one in the OP?

Sorry the one you linked to. I also have an 8TB of the Backup Plus and that one is noisy too. Bought Western Digital Elements and they are much more quieter. It's a bit of a lottery to be honest, other people don't seem to have this issue with Seagate.

We already have the (one I linked) but it's always been sitting next to Xbox and I've never noticed the noise because of TV and so on but also not been able to test any speeds on it.

Do you think WD are with the price?

When I got the WD 6TB it was £83.99 in April from Amazon. At that price it's worth it.

Unless you desperately need a new drive just wait there are usually plenty of Christmas and New Year deals on Amazon.
Edited by: "i_need_bargains" 7th Dec 2019
This was cheaper on black friday at about £76. We don't have time machines so if you need this now it's still the cheapest on the market I can see and a decent price per tb.

If you don't need it now I'd wait till the new year to be honest. There's a good chance you'll find something cheaper that's either this or just as good.
