Cheapest I've seen for this drive. I think the firmware issue has been resolved but I know that the whole incident has left a bad taste in people's mouths.

Add the drive to your basket from the "Today only" page to qualify for this price. Delivery is £6.99 if you don't qualify for free shipping with AVForums.

You can just pick it up from Bolton aswell.

Oh and I almost forgot! This is the 7200.11 drive - which has firmware issues!!!! Be sure to test the drive fully using seagates own software and also run it for a few days to be sure it's working OK. But before you do that make sure you update the firmware from the seagate website here: seagate.custkb.com/sea….11

My 7200.11 HD has just died and had it force flashed by sending it to netherlands (all done by seagate!), no data loss. A heads up for people buying this.

This is exactly the capacity where you want to have a library of high def films.. Good find

What is the highest capacity for a laptop hard drive...any where near 1tb?

500GB unfortunately

You can never have enough storage.

I have 2 of these and they work flawlessly. The firmware issue has been resolved since January, and all the drives sold in 2009 already have the new firmware, so forget the old stories about this drive and buy one if you need extra storage.

Voted HOT!!!

Mine died about 6 months later! SO I wouldn't hold out quite yet.

There is nothing wrong physically with the drives, so no data loss will occur, it's just a firmware issue. Hopefully this new update will be good.

Despite this hiccup I'ld still buy seagate as I don't trust other makes.

Yes, you purchased a faulty Seagate drive (pre 2009 version). No issues with these drives sold in 2009, also no need to update your firmware either (you already have the newest F/W version).
Both my Seagate hard-drives have been running OK since 12 weeks now.

As with any hard-drive, make sure you backup your important data to DVD+R media, just in case! ;-)

or £120 delivered if you live in far off northern Ireland........RIP OFF SCAN

I'm really put off by seagate now. The warranty is back down to 3 years on OEM drives!

And the Samsung Spinpoint F1 seems to be a lot faster than these drives according to Toms Hardware guide.

Really struggling to see why I should buy a seagate HD now.
