Cancelled order claiming item had been discontinued, item was back in stock less than a week later for higher price and they wouldn't honour original price, so yeah, ebuyer = company

if its not the Pro, its not worth a go...

This or the western digital black?? Building a new system wanted something to last long and store my programming files and ordinary files.

Customer service I'd imagine

gotten a lot of things from ebuyer and have never had an issue myself.

Ordered a x300 myself recently and I’ve never had a problem with ebuyer myself

Why? What is the spec difference between pro and non-pro. All I see is 3 vs 5 year warranty and recovery. Any technical specs that matter appear the same.

Good price. But according to Amazon reviews may be a little slow and noisy.

5400rpm so good for mass storage of pics and videos and documents, but wouldn't use for software or gaming.

Prices finally coming down?

Who these days other than numpties or old gear or poor don't use SSD for that.

Errr just bought 13x12tb drives

I could buy a house for the price off ssd in those values

Spinning rust still has it's place

these are storage drives... not good for gaming or for program software use. The slow rpm speed is the key point it will read write slow... check out the stats....

If you have a tight budget - go for it otherwise get the pro...
I would recommend the 2tb hybrid drive over this

Not all of us can afford a 4TB SSD drive for backup.

852 x 4.7GB disks.

When your write 1tb on this forum, you are refuring to 128GB. Use caps. if you mean Gigabytes or Terrabytes.

Thank you, I am aware of that. In fact it looks as though the newer 4TB Seagate drives are using SMR. They used to have 4 platters, but this drive only has 2. I don't now if SMR performance has improved, but the 5TB Seagate I bought a couple of years ago writes at about 30MB/s!

5400rpm drives are normally for use in things like sky boxes and dvr. You want 7200rpm hard drive disks for storage on a pc and ssd for OS.

I'll pass. Shame, if it was a Western Digital from Amazon then buy it

Some people like myself don't think it's worth the extra money to save a few seconds on loading. I usually play on my phone when am loading so it doesn't matter, you save a couple seconds if it's loading something like games, OS is probably different though

A 7200rpm drive is around 33% faster at delivering data than a 5400rpm drive. When you consider a hdd is already slow compared to an ssd that quite a big difference.

Video editors.

Are these any better than the st3000’s that lasted 3 years and all (I had 4 3tb drives in the nas) within 4 months (different times not at the same time) had reallocated sectors? I’m inclined to go to toshiba/western instead but wondered what people’s thoughts were on these - are they better than previously.

Or maybe these 5400rpm drives are being used in a NAS. There's a 115MB/s hard cap if you're on gigabit ethernet. Power consumption and heat matter more as the drives are on 24/7 while being jammed up close to their fellow drives.

Personally there's not a single HDD in my machine, just two SSDs that were picked up back in 2012. HDDs are only allowed in the NAS.

Stay away from Seagate. After all that ST3000DM001 crap I will never touch them again.
