Voted hot - I'm going to get this myself

EDIT: Damn, they're currently unable to process orders though!

EDIT2: Nevermind, it's up again, must've just been a quick bit of downtime.

Well surely it'd be rude not to at this price.

Saves keep having to find things to move and delete

Thank You, and thank you for the heads up

EDIT: Just got the confirmation email, and checked the order status straight after and it says Awaiting Stock.... typical

It's so annoying that DABS is about 3 miles from me, but I can't collect it. Postage is such a pain.

Just to say that this is one of the older seagate drives (.9) which is probably why the price is pretty low. They will probably be noisier than their newer cousins. However perforance difference is likely to be negligible

Remember you can use SATA drives just like IDE drives (so long as you have sata ports on your motherboard :P ) you don't have to set up a RAID array or anything like that

You could do at one time, to be honest I'd not noticed you couldn't anymore.

Dabs.com rules. It is the place to shop IMO.

Voted hot, i've ordered one. Thank you Emma.

This is not only a SATA drive, it's a SATA II. The difference is the interface speed. SATA interfaces are 150 mega bit per second (MBPS) and SATA II interfaces are 300 MBPS. The older IDE drives (ATA) are 133 MBPS.

SATA interface on a 20year old technology like these magnetic drives amuse me, especially when the ceiling per 7200rpm drive like these is still approx 55-60megabytes/sec and has been around that mark for many years.

When hybrid Solid State Drives SSD's, merge with magnetic ones will it be a benefit and possibly a bottleneck when they can be made to do gigabytes/second, or SSD alone drives, possibly, but that is still expensive technology, for now.

As schizoboy implies, the 300mbps is just marketing talk so don't let that sway you either way. The only worthwhile features of the SATA II spec are the ones which are ignored on most hard drives, such as NCQ.

Just what the doctor ordered....voted hot.

Thats brilliant!

very hot, but I don't have sata connections on motherboard

Fantastic value! Ordered one and left rep! Nice one!

out of stock

wonder when they will get more

sorry for my ignorance,,,, but do u need a motherboard which can cope with SATA ....not simply an IDE - sata cable.

I have IDE drives at the moment,,,, any tips?

many thanks

Hi, I have a Mac, are there any mac experts out there? I have an internal 250gb hard drive in it.

It's a G5 Imac 20", non intel.
As far as I know, it's a SATA ATA (I think)

can anyone tell me if this is as good as as the original hard drive in it already?

thanks

Though you might be better just getting a IDE drive as there's plenty around and the performance is petty much identical.

Performance is definately not identical!
I have an IDE drive and a SATA I drive, and the latter is obviously quicker in all respects.

Are they identical drives aside from their interface?

Bought. Voted h-o-t.

interface is different and speed

sata > ide

As schizoboy points out above, SATA is obviously the faster of the interfaces but not even the latest consumer hard drives would utilise all PATA/IDE has to offer, let alone SATA.
