Attention Uber Geeks !
Dirt cheap SCSSI drive, if you fancy supin' your system !
You could even buy a couple and have a 10k 146 GB stripe. Would be super-fast!!
You would also need a SCSSI card like :

pcwb.com/cat…968

£100 less tan the RRP.

Manufacturer's Part Number: ST373207FC
Capacity: 73 GB
Form Factor: 3.5" x 1/3H
Interface Type: FC-AL-2
Dimensions (WxDxH): 10.2 cm x 14.6 cm x 2.5 cm
Type: Hard drive - internal
Buffer Size: 8 MB
Spindle Speed: 10000 rpm
Manufacturer Warranty: 5 years warranty
Connector: 40 pin Centronics (SCA-2)

Actually, the Adaptec ASC 29160 does not support XP..
Would need to source another SCSSI controller

Good price but unfortunately the interface is FC-AL not SCSI so is near useless to most of the population. FC-AL is completely different to SCSI in its operation. This sort of interface is normally found on Servers. Sun do a PCI card for this interface, compatibility is very limited.

Also the card you suggest is incompatible with FC-AL.

Hmm.... What's the cheapest FC-AL controller ? Or are they all crazy money?

Don't you need to be a registered business to buy from PC World Business??

The controllers vary as to whether you want raid etc. You would have to buy a drive enclosure though or have a backplane that supports these drives (Found on some servers Sun etc) and these can be very expensive. I have never seen a drive caddy for this type of drive that would go in a standard PC.

Basically the controller is connected to the enclosure by a fibre optic cable, this supports a lot more devices than SCSI does.

I've always shyed away from buying refurb HDD, just not worth the risk, as most refurb products usually conk out faster than their normal counterparts. Don't know for sure, just from my experience but I would not want to put all the valuable data on here and save a few pennies just for it to go kapoot!

Although my IBM/Hitachi DeathStar's seem to be doing OK compared to everyone elses.

" In addition, some have been repaired. "

Not worth the risk with my precious data:whistling:

" In addition, some have been repaired. ":

You are quoting the generic description for a clearance item but each clearance item has its own specific data which is what I quoted. These are listed as being NEW as I previously stated.
Not that it matters because these are designed for enterprise data solutions and if I was in charge of the corporate budget for data storage for my company and was trawling HUKD for appropriate hardware I’d sack myself. :giggle:
