Aren't there reliability (click of death) issues with these?

good deal paid £60 from macro about 3 ago, without scan disc, mine is making the clicking sound already.but this drive is compatible with wii,for the usb software, hence good deal

could anyone giving rep please put your name so i can give some back

kinda good deal, but sooo so many faults with them to warrent the free memory stick. check the reviews before you buy. not voted either way.

Tesco had plenty of these drives for £59. This was at the weekend and online also, but price has since gone up Ionline. A colleague of mine got the online one delivered to his local store (before the price increased) the other day. Came with '£30' of software, e.g. virus checker, etc. This was at Westhill store in Aberdeen, not sure if UK wide.

Okay, no 4GB stick, but you can easily pick them up for alot less than the £10 difference

Voted Cold I am afraid,. Nearly got one 1 months ago, but my research showed many problems... Cant remember it all now, but think there was a faulty batch of these (check model number etc). I wouldnt risk it.

if thats the case most company's will replace faulty items

Not a bad price with it including the 4gb mem stick, although you can get the same drive from PCworld for £65.50 either collect from store or free delivery. Personally i use western digital external drives, they seem to be reliable.

bit late if you discover after youve lost ur data tho :x

Had one of these a few months now. It started making clicky noises yesterday.
Thing is with these USB drives, they're all fine, until you have a problem.
Just make sure the drive has a decent warranty. Seagate usually have 5 years
but that may be with the higher end drives. Most of all, make sure you have all
important stuff stored in more than 1 location.

But I use the Seagate 1Tb to back up my important data. Not very good if I lose my backup data., What is the solution? Backup a backup drive?

well with photos of my children i have 4 back ups (both laptops, pc, disc and online)

id always recommend having back ups on disc what if your "backup drive" gets stolen??

I like it!

Oddly there are no bad reviews on the Argos site - they are all 4 or 5 stars out of 5!

I was 'lucky' (hope it doesn't start 'clicking') enough to get the Tesco Bundled one in Hermiston Gait Edinburgh at £59.99....except it scanned at £79.99 (the 'unbundled price') so....i got £40 refunded (double the £20 difference!)....i love Tesco!

That's about as useful as a chocolate teapot, because they know that hardly anyone will go to the trouble of sending them back (at their own expense?) and waiting weeks for a replacement - while the value of them is plummeting all the time.

Can't argue with that.

Btw guys, dont mean to hijack this thread, but does anyone know how long warranty you have with Samsung F1's from ebuyer? Mine started clicking a week ago and now i get i/o error while trying to access it. Also, anyone know a way i can access my stuff and back it up or is it already too late lol? If i can back stuff up, then i may get this to back stuff up on to (It was almost full). Rep for any help (go on Queen B, get busy :p)

Samsung warranty checker for end user.

Mine developed the click of death after 2 weeks so I moved all my data to a Samsung F1.

Thank you, repped

Personally I would go for the reliable Samsung Story... I've been using it for a while and definitely recommend it..
Too many issues with Seagate drives.

My only experience is with WD. I had a MyBook 250GB which only had a 1 year warranty, but I contacted them anyway, and they said they had extended all warrantys to 2 years. Bingo.
They paid for the drive to be collected. I did have to wait a couple of months I think almost, but in the end I got a Brand new MyBook2 500GB.

I'm not hearing clicky sounds anymore from this Seagate, but now I'm too wary to trust it with important stuff. :?

we bought 2 Story drives at work (1.5tb size) - 1 has already had problems :whistling:

everyone has had 1 of something that has had problems - nothing is 100% perfect.

you take your chances with anything electrical these days

Heat added as it's a fair price and the USB stick will be useful for some

The £11.50 difference between this one and the one from Comet (Iomega £58.49) would get you two 4gb sticks with 50p to spare from Play (play.com/PC/…tml).

Comet's Iomega 1tb I got, had a Samsung F1 ecogreen inside it and not the clicketyclick Seagate.

hotukdeals.com/ite…ard

I want to get an external drive but everytime they are on here people say they aren't a good one. Where is a good one for a decent price? I would prefer a USB powered one but haven't seen one above 500GB

very good deal, got one reserved for tmw, thanks op

even if there was a bad batch of drives, as happened not long ago with seagate's sata enterprise drives, they try for ages to issue firmware updates to "patch up" the problem... and here in lies another issue, this drives all have OEM intended drives installed, as far as i know they wont accept firmware updates, or the firmware update software wont accept the drive ID....

either way, if there is any sign of reports of drives dying, steer well clear, there is little excuse for click of death within the first couple of years, just cost cutting on components used and possibly poor shipping

Had one of these for months , no problems at all , no clicking. Can slow down when transfering large files but so does my maxtor. I paid 100 for it when i bought it and would definately buy another.
