It's not that portable. You need to be connected to the mains electric and does not power up from the USB.
Had mine 6 months off Amazon, at a better price than this.
Seagate do fail quite regularly so, I bought a Inateck Dual SATA HDD Docking Station, in case it dies and I will still be able to recover the data.
If I knew it had such a high failure rate and mains powered; I wouldn't have bought it.

Its actually portable drive.

This deal is for a portable HD but the Tesco one that JamesyJamesy linked to is the desktop (non-portable) version.

Yes would be very interested if you can cannibalize it ideally being able to reuse the enclosure.

UPDATE - Looks like you can youtube.com/wat…qoE

Although maybe not reuse the enclosure

I picked this up this afternoon, another annoying voucher since it's over £50 and it is Definitely the portable version, it's way too small to be the 3.5" version

and this is the one I've got: youtube.com/wat…QZY

And this is the drive inside for anyone looking to pull it apart:

samsung?

Samsung's hard drive division got eaten by Seagate so yep, it's samsung. It's a nice drive too, quicker than my 2tb samsung f4 internal

I haven't opened it up yet to check though, but that's what the internet says it is. The drive name on the PC appears to match it being the m9t as well.

I bought one - opened it up (pretty easy with just a credit card). I can confirm the drive is a Samsung ST2000LM003 with normal sata connectors. Easy to whip out and swap with an old 320GB drive I had in a media bay caddy. The enclosure went back together in one piece without any signs of disturbance.

Can anyone comment on the reliability of this drive? My ex had one (1TB) and it made some really disconcerting noises

How easy was it to remove the drive?

Still £64.99 online for me so did you buy in store?

How easy was it to remove the drive?

It was very easy for me - I just used a credit card starting at the corners, slide it into the seam and then work your way around which will release the clips. From then, just pull out the rubber bungs holding the drive in place and lift it out. 2 minutes with a screwdriver and you are done. It took me about 6 or 7 minutes to remove the drive and put in an older smaller capacity drive in its place.

Just picked one up myself, pretty straightforward to take out of case and put into PS4, however not as straightforward to install the software on as when installing would turn off at 100% and try to reboot. At this point the TV would just have a black screen on and PS4 will be blinking blue. Took me a while to get it sorted but found this advice helpful (taken from the Playstation Forums by TheTonySlayer)

1)
After further research and testing, I found one additional method to get the hard drive to boot successfully. Just hold down the power button 6-6.5 seconds after the beep just before safe mode is triggered. Holding the button down allows the hard drive to fully spinup before the HDMI handshaking takes place. Note, if you hold the button too long (7.5 seconds to be exact), you will get into safe mode and have to try again.
2)
Another slightly modified method is to push the power button and release after 2 seconds after it beeps. Then hold the power button for 4-5 seconds and release. This is easier than the previous method because you have more time before you get into safe mode (because safe mode requires the button to be held continuously for 7.5 seconds).

I used the 2nd method and once it booted up and installed the software and done all the necessary installations all was fine thereafter and no problems since.

Hope this helps if anyone else has any problems, and feels they have wasted £65 like I did till I got it working

I bought one the other day, as my 5tb ran out, just for my plex movies/tv shows etc.. but thinking of buying another in the future for my PS4, so thanks for the tip!

This has now dropped in price to £59.99

Does this have built in backup software or password protection?

thinking of dropping mine into a 2013 MacBook Pro 13.3, does anyone know if it will fit?
Did a bit of googling and looks like the drive has to be less than 12.5mm thick.
