'Old and phat' isn't entirely accurate, you're comparing two different classes (desktop 3.5" / portable 2.5").
Appreciate some may have a preference for a USB powered portable drive.

As an external drive, yes, although you'd need an extra plug to power it. You most like won't be able to remove the drives and fit them internally though.

You'll likely see faster load times with this regardless though.

The 3TB one of these is 85 quid on Amazon, though I tend to agree with Orange Sooty that you might as well spend an extra apple and get the portable one that don't require plugging in to the mains.

Also worth mentioning that I've only ever had the one Seagate external hard drive, the 2TB Xbox branded model, and it's been faultless. Seagate products seem to get a lot of bad press and even worse reviews but from personal experience the one I've got has been excellent
I've noticed a slow down in performance using an external drive on ps4 anyone else had this? Also ps4 froze a couple of times

Not an option available when I got my standard black one in Spring 2014 and then upgraded to the silver Batman edition a couple of years ago, just took the measly 500 GB it came suppplied with out and installed a 2TB plate myself.

Thinking about it that may be a Seagate too but to answer your question I barely used either machine with the midget storage it came with because I nigh on immediately changed it for something bigger but I didn't notice any difference and wouldn't have thought using an external one would make any difference either.

Defintely not noticed anything like that using the external HDD on either my old phat Halo Xbone or anyof the three different Xbone S's I've had, I'm no IT technician but something tells me there may be a problem with your PS4.

Just been on chat and told they don't

Less than £25 per terabyte? That's normally what I consider the limit of what is a good deal, although I'd rather have a good internal drive for the same price.
Bought the 3TB model a year ago for £108, to expand my PS4 storage capacity. Would recommend purchasing the version with separate mains plug, to ensure the drive is supplied with sufficient power.

Had no issues with my 3TB over the last year, great deal
