Does it work in macbook? Do I need to format it?

Same price (close enough) at PC World if you would like to collect.

Think I bought this from Littlewoods last week (paid €74 or thereabouts with a voucher).

And yes, it does work with Mac but I had to format it when first inserted.

Under more technical details it says: "Works with Windows Vista, Windows XP, or Mac OSX 10.4.8 or higherUSB 2.0 or 1.1 port."

I have one , works fine , sata drive inside.

It's a great price but I believe its definately worth the £6 extra for the WD MyBook 1TB. Have 8 of these, work flawlessly constantly on! Also WD reknown for hassleless RMA & 3 year warranty!

i dont understand why this is hot there are so many 1TB drives online and offline for this price hotukdeals.com/sea…nal plus currys have a 1tb drive for £59.97 hotukdeals.com/ite…-r/ and even cheaper for makro customers.

Does anyone know what drive is in these things ?

Is it a Barracuda 7200rpm 32mb 7200.12 ?

sounds familiar but not 100% sure ill rip mine open again later and let you know.

I've just had to dismantle my Iomega Ultramax to get the drives out. The Ultramax just stopped working, but the Seagate drives inside were fine.

Avoid Iomega drives, they're dreadful.

In my case, yes.

I bought one of these drives last week from Comet (costed me £69.99). While the drive worked to my expectations, the USB controller had a naughty habit (that seemed to develop during the week) of going to "sleep" every so often, causing computer stutter when I didn't want it. The cause? heat, the enclosure has no cooling, essential for longevity, and the cage on the thing was tight and most certainly like an oven to the poor thing.

Needless to say, I decided to "crack" open the case to see what was inside, to my surprise I was greeted by a Barracuda 7200.12. Why Seagate decidesd to use their latest flagship consumer drive in their most basic external HDD (They have cheaper drives in their range) when it is limited by the USB interface is beyond me.

For example, in a quick test on SiSoft SANDRA, my HDD read speed has increased from 33MB/s (limited by USB) to a mega 100MB/s, much faster than my 500GB Hitachi SATA drive.

In any case, I still have the enclosure, and going by google product search, I seem to have paid around £5 extra to realise that buying a external HDD on the cheap does not work.

The price is hot, but so is the product, think carefully before committing to this, or any other "budget" external HDD.

just found the maxtor cheaper at cdiscount £63.98 delivered hotukdeals.com/ite…5-/
