500GB Western Digital Elements for £57 at Amazon (and that's possibly not the cheapest, first place I looked)...

price shown in deal doesnt include vat or del, cold cold cold :-(

These drives are terrible - From personal experience, mine wont connect for more than 15 min at a time when it feels like it so i am having to gradually remove 250gigs of data from it to another backup drive (arrrggg), there are also pleanty of other users with the same problem on the net - stear clear!

Sounds like you have a faulty drive. Seagate's come with a long guarantee, you should get the drive replaced. Mine is on 24/7 and works great.
